Re: comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition (C.S.S.C.G.C. 2022) is here!
Just added all these to the ZXDB queue. I'm enjoying the reviews at least as much as the games (by which I mean 'a lot more than').

"The Boring Talks" does loading sounds
Here's a good audio program that is an ode to retro computer loading noises (it's from last month). The presenter is a C64 owner, but the Speccy and the 'chuntey' get a good mention (it does, after all, have the best loading screech of all).

Re: Amazonia 2020 wrong file
The zipped file for Amazonia 2020 edition contains the old, bugged TZX file of Amazonia. Checked by comparing the two files with Tapir. Cheers. Can you upload it for the next update: Go here (while logged in to the forum): https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/add/index.php select 'Add new files for...

Re: Games that weren't - because of you!
Here's one of the 2 games I've been working on. It works, but it needs more colour, objectives to complete levels and a lot more. Aye that does look interesting. I don't think it needs "a lot more" though. The lines give it a 'vector' look, so monochrome would suit this nicely. I suppose ...

In my post here https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=87703#p87703 i tried to used spoiler but didn't work. Hi firelord. I've merged the topic. A lot of the old functionality has been removed for the moment, as we're trying to work out what was causing the forum's recent 'freezing'...

Re: ZX GUORDEL another wordle clone for ZX Spectrum
Good work. It's got a good dictionary. The stats are a really nice touch, I often lose my stats when I play the mobile version anyway, so keeping a snapshot will be just as easy.
Maybe it's just the luck of the draw, but the words I've had so far in Guordel are much more challenging that Wordle!

Similar to spider's answer. LD BC,2650 is about the same as PAUSE 1, and 5300 = PAUSE 2. So ~3975 will be between those. Tune it as required
Code: Select all
loop: ld bc,2650
lp: dec bc
ld a,b

I've been shopping at Cronosoft and noticed: A Strange Affair.
A 16K Speccy text adventure by Jonathan Cauldwell. I'm surprised I missed this one (now purchased).

Re: Calculating V-RAM address from a given Y-pixel
Why would you use decimal numbers, when shuffling bits? HEX is a lot more intuitive and direct for stuff like that. But even better, you can use binary. I never learned HEX. I did try hard as well - I made this trainer for the CGC a few years' back, but I just couldn't get it to stick. Maybe if I w...

Re: Calculating V-RAM address from a given Y-pixel
Let's say that I have a vertical pixel in a Spectrum, so from 0 to 192, and I'd like to know the video RAM address that is included in that pixel. E.g. pixel 0 would be at 0x4000. I'm always refearing to X-position = 0. I might have misunderstood exactly what you want to do, but this is the classic...

Re: Website DNS is flaky at best
In the last week or so I've been having the same issues using Chrome (Windows 10). Never had issues before. It's hard to pin down, but it sometimes happens if I've been away from the page for a bit (Forums). I found clearing the site's cookies and closing/reopening the window sometimes fixed it but...

Re: Some Italians uMIA
Yep we'll need to be careful here:
Cracks/hacks = minor tweaks to graphics etc (we do not add these)
Mods = substantial or noteworthy changes (we do add these)
As wallyweek says, a lot of the Italian MIA are cracks. Best to not rush and add these to the DB yet.

Re: 2 MIA games - looking for advice how to preserve
Yep you'd need a mono - stereo jack (one ring at the mono end, two at the stereo) to go from speccy to PC. I had mine made, but I see you can get them online. Most emulators can then open a .WAV file (ZX-Spin for example). Getting the volume high enough can be tricky in my experience. People often s...
