So I've just worked out what these icons mean.

I'm so clever.

Re: Have you ever completed a text adventure?

I reckon so - it's icon driven so you don't have to go snaffling for synonyms (good name for a prog band).

I remember dying in the game but it wasn't common, and if you use snapshots you should be OK.

Re: Have you ever completed a text adventure?

Kobyashi Naru - That's the only one that I can remember finishing back in the day without using hints from magazines etc. I finished Lords of Time but had to look up one single hint when I got stuck near the end. I was a bit annoyed with myself about that. There are newer offerings that I've finish...

Re: Yie Ar Kung Fu

Not my favourite beat-em-up at the time, but not a bad one. As Alessandro mentioned it was quite easy, I managed to complete it mainly through random button mashing. One of its features I found interesting was the different opponents, a lot of beat-em ups around at the same time just had you fightin...

Yep, pretty cool game considering its limitations of character movement.

Felt a bit flickery at times. Liked the way you could fly behind the clouds.

Argh, so I finally got fed up with wading through Amazon dross and failing to buy any Xmas pressies, and finally got round to trying this. Very amusing Mr Typoid, nice work..! I managed to get 4 of Rorthron's clues - might have got a few more if I was less impatient. Flippin' eck, the Christmas Pud ...

Nice screens, I like the way that some are for games that didn't have loading screens originally.

My favourites are probably 3D Tunnel and Styx. The Pyramid looks pretty cool too.

Re: Graph Paper

No. I built an Excel spreadsheet for the whole screen, manually input each pixel as a 1 or 0 and used formulae to convert these into a string of values for 0x4000 and beyond (I hope I got that right). Oof! I did something similar for the attributes. I'm struggling to visualise this (I get the pixel...

I always found the toughest part of Robin of the Wood was the map.

Having a wraparound map that you could be teleported around meant I was permanently lost.

Devils of the Deep.

Flippin' eck, makes Transylvanian Tower look like a world beater.

...And the "Out of left field" choice:

Pimania.

Forgetting the whole rigmarole about the prize, not sure if there was anything actually resembling a game in there.

I've tended to use Spin 0.666 and its assembler, as it seems a bit more stable than 0.7. Only thing is that the beeper in 0.666 didn't seem to work when it's in 48k mode, but I always found it great apart from that. I found Jonathan's guide really useful, but I didn't attempt to follow along with cr...
