Re: Disappointing coin-op conversions
Is there something wrong with the Ocean's 1986 attempt? Let me start. Hero with inverted graphics, incredibly small girl as they suddenly realize that they don't have space on screen, bad colour clash for legs... It's better than earlier versions but still not really good. Have a look here how it s...

Re: My projects
It was supposed to be quite fathful to Hippodrome so no combos unfortunately. The problem with beatemups is that they require a fast engine and a lot of memory for sprites. Sprites needs to be big and each actions requires a lot of frames to look nice. Needless to say it requires a good artist to dr...

Re: My projects
Hi Ivan, nice to see you here! Yes, I made once some post on WOS about my unfinished projects but now i'm going to show more :) As for Zx Dev Conversions my game that I'm going to finish in December is more an inspiration than faithful conversion. I'll see if you accept it at all ;) Okay, let's star...

New loading screens by Andy Green
I hope I'm posting in the right forum, we don't have specialized forum about graphics/art here. If you don't visit Facebook or ZxArt (a really cool site with Spectrum graphics and music), you could miss that a new talented and very active man emerged recently in out little community. His name is And...

Re: Open source projects in development?
I think I might have to accept that I'll never get the time to build an entire game myself, but it might be fun to make a contribution to someone else's. I always make my source code available but it's only after I finish some project. I don't know if you have any previous experience with team work...

Re: World of Spectrum....
Yes, it's a sad story what happened to WOS. It proves how much depends on a single man, his commitment and personality. But personally I also wouldn't like to make some hate threads here. I hope we'll be able to build something worthy here. Maybe not as splendid as WOS in its golden years as we are ...

Very mysterious person from early years of Spectrum. That's all I know for sure
A similar case is William Tang - man who wrote Horace games and later disappeared.

Re: Preservation of MIAs
I´m posting loads of MIA's (most of them portuguese) in a weekly basis. You can download it here... Thanks for it! When I have some free time I'll check them for sure. I also hope that at some moment we'll be able to add them to the database here. For now, they are safe and available at your websit...

Wouldn't it be Sword of Ianna without any discussion?so at least we can relive good tradition of voting for the game of the year
Re: Logo
By the way I like general look of the forum too - blue, calm and unintrusive background, grey buttons, lack of these ugly avatars from another forum ;) which you had to have whether you liked them or not ;) Very simple but neat and elegant design. Something that I've grown up with and something that...

Re: Even better than the arcade version
I agree about Renegade. It's quite a different game than on arcade. Arcade game requires lot of running left and right and punching while running. It requires good scrolling and wouldn't work on Spectrum well. On Spectrum they made a brave but wise decision to change the gameplay. It's "stand i...

Do we need to see this big "phpBB" on the top all time when browsing the forums?
Is it technically possible to replace it with Spectrum rainbow or any other nice custom logo?

Hi ADJB, nice to see you here. Hope that you'll stay for longer! Thanks for clarifying stuff where I was inprecise. It's also good to know that you have a lot of stuff preserved. I understand that speaking about illegal stuff you mean cracks, like the infamous Italian ones. Yes, I agree it doesn't m...

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum
Rotate on the screen. The Zynaps and R-Type scroller. Scroll the blocks on the screen, not the empty space. no need to move a buffer to the screen. Huge time saving and probably the best way to do it, the small downside is that background interaction with sprites sometimes looks a bit odd. Trouble ...

I didn't back it myself but I believe that it has big chance to actually appear and be in decent state, unlike Vega+. These guys seem serious and responsible enough.
It's nice that it will have own software using its exclusive features - new Rex, new Dizzy, a Russian beatemup called No Fate...

My projects
In an attempt to make this forum alive ;) I'll be showing here in this thread some my unfinished game projects. There was a time a few years ago when I was coding like crazy, doing several games at once. Now it's unfortunately less time, motivation and stamina but I hope to finish at least some of t...

Re: Disappointing coin-op conversions
Pitfighter was atrocious but then the source material wasn't great either. Maybe I'm pervert but for me Pitfighter for Spectrum isn't that bad ;) The graphics has feel of digitized photos but yet is clear. All persons are immediately recognizable. There is scaling of sprites, they become really big...

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum
Not this one - I started it around May this year, with EG specifically in mind. So I must have been confusing it with some other project, these space shootemups are a bit similar, aren't they? ;) I had the chance of running it now. It's a really good engine. You have a chance to make a second Zynap...

Re: Preservation of MIAs
Now I'm at home and may write a longer post. Is this classic era stuff of unknown permission status (wrt Spectrum Computing)? Yes, in my case mostly old programs from 80s and 90s (in case of Russian software). Some collected on internet and a few dumped personally from the cassettes. If I understand...

I have this error too. You can force Firefox to ignore it but it's uncomfortable and may put many people away from entering the forums. It would be really urgent to correct it.

Re: Disappointing coin-op conversions
Some bad conversions:
- Kung Fu Master
- Double Dragon
- Final Fight
- Eswat
- Mario Bros
Outrun actually isn't the worst. It's a bit slow but has decent graphics.

Re: Spectrum screen layout
I've heard it was easy to do on hardware level. And that it's described in book about ULA by Chris Smith. Unfortunately I'm crap when it comes to hardware so I won't say you more. You must also remember that Zx Spectrum wasn't designed from the scratch. It was a development of earlier models - Z80 a...
