Re: Antstream - Retro Game Streaming Service

The barrel is scraped and someone finds yet another way of making money off old games other people wrote. I think I'll pass thank you.

Re: ZX Spectrum Next Discussion

One has to hope that the delays (and suggestions) are due to real problems that might have been unforeseen, such as responsiveness or real usability issues. If only that were the case. It's not my opinion that the keyboard was fully working and ready for mass production in February but the develope...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next Discussion

And still this drags on. As we now enter Q2 of the year comments by the developers that they will "try to ship it earlier than Q2" have to be placed firmly in the negative column. With the latest update confirming that a test keyboard has yet to be produced that meets expectations the cloc...

Re: 3D Chess 2K18

I agree with Ast A. Moore in that these new diddly base pixels don't work for me either. To be specific what you have now appears for all the world to look to me like inconsistent highlighting, especially on the black pieces i.e.if the light is coming from the left then why is there a highlight on t...

Re: 3D Chess 2K18

The smaller it is, the more space there is left for the actual game in the end. Then I will offer the suggestion that once you have worked out this new optimisation you step away from the graphics and take a week or two working on the rest of the necessary code. The idea is not to come up with fini...

Re: 3D Chess 2K18

The new format should allow better compression though hopefully. Why? You've already achieved <512 bytes in previous versions. If this is going to end up as a 1K\2K\4K version of chess, fully working, then I can see (and applaud) the point of what you're doing since every last byte will be importan...

Don't know. Ask him? Very difficult to work out. Even after all this time. Perhaps someone else knows. Email him? Rather a waste of time. Really not worth it. You'll have to decide yourself. I'm not fussed. Still, who cares? Absolutely not me. Nobody here does either. I don't know why anyone even bo...

Now 563 bytes -12 to go
Does that include a fix for the incorrect start positions?

Sometimes you get so wrapped up in the coding that you fail to see the bigger picture. Can you spot what's wrong here :?:

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere

I think you may be getting caught up too much in the need to find an identical image, exactly the same photo, whereas I'm trying to point out it's down to similarities in actors in general. If you want a nonsensical example then Billy Dee Williams can't be the model for Chase HQ because in that pict...

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere

I'm not saying for definite that it is a match, nor am I saying the pic I posted was used in any way as a template, I could have used Raymond St. Jacques for example from 'Come Back Charleston Blue' instead and given more time to go through my blaxploitation films likely many others. It's just to po...

Actor Robert Hook, original pic then rotated and aspect ratio changed to make it similar to arcade flyer.

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere

It seems that the Chase HQ figure is Billy Dee Williams. This is the source: I don't see it (the match I mean). Nor me, looks a real stretch to be honest. That pose was pretty much standard for movie and TV characters in the 70's, just off the top of my head have a look at the 'Magnum Heat' version...

Re: Spectrum +3 disk images via Kryoflux

So what's the policy with this scheme\method concerning "Distribution Denied" titles, some of which are mentioned in the OP?

I assume it's OK to copy off such titles for your own use as long as you don't distribute or make them available to others as with their casette versions?

Re: Out Run - where the Spectrum fell short

I'm filming the final bits for this Out Run video this weekend, then it's all a case of editing it. For that authentic retro feel can you use your editing software to change the Frames Per Second the video runs at so it's more in line with that of the 48K Spectrum version of Out Run. 3FPS should do...

Re: "Go-Go BunnyGun", first screen grabs.

I just say that bullets would go out in alternate colours so the player could tell when collisions are going to be checked. This may reduce computing time and still feel precise enough for the player. Can you expand on this because it all sounds a bit illogical to be honest? When you say "alte...

Readers will be disappointed\pleased to hear that this campaign failed to reach its goal last night, falling short of the required amount by £3635 (61%) and attracting a meagre 85 backers. Undaunted, Elite Systems Ltd. say they are going to try again in a month or two with a reduced deck run that pr...

Re: Just a little head-scratcher

If you start the code from 32771 instead of 32768 (or zero out the first three bytes) you'll remove the Call to the routine that initially draws the attributes, then you can see the raw pixel data being redrawn behind the scenes every loop.

The emulator I was using didn't give me any problems but when I tried it on some others I had the flicker you mentioned. It should be fixed now and I've changed the code above (new data in the first line) if you want to give it a try.

Just a little head-scratcher

I've had the idea for this for years, and with time over Xmas and New Year thanks to some lousy TV decided to see if I could get it to work. I'm sure it's been done before, the logic isn't that difficult to work out, but it was fun to code something that has no real purpose. So, Copy and Paste the b...

Well that was....really strange. I managed to crack the Fax Machine puzzle via a method that I don't think is the correct way to solve it but instead has to be one of the most incredible coincidences going. And I didn't hack the code or type numbers in at random or go through all the combinations ei...
