Best opening sequence...
Inspired by just winning the latest post on the Guess the screen$ thread, I wonder... what's the best opening sequence of any ZX Spectrum game? I'll kick off with Trantor: The Last Stormtrooper , if only because it's the only one I can think of right now (and it *is* awesome!): https://www.youtube.c...

Quart into a pint pot
On some Spectrum-related Facebook post earlier I noted in passing that the 48K Speccy version of Scrabble has a dictionary of 11,000+ words. That got me wondering how that was possible? The average length of English words is about five characters, so that 11,000-word dictionary equates to about 55,0...

Re: Newsfield LM Magazine
I don't know a great deal about this magazine. Was there only issue 0-4? Yep, it was quite the overreach for Newsfield, seems to be the distillation of the LM farrago. Shame, because it was only a handful of years before the UK’s lad-mag revolution — and my feeling is that LM wasn’t a million miles...

Link below ( uploaded them today) https://archive.org/details/lm-lifestyle-magazine-newsfield-lm-lifestyle-magazine-newsfield I've seen these scans before and they made me wonder why there was ever any debate over the meaning of 'LM', a contention that remains today on the LM Wikipedia page : "...

Re: A better map of Everyones A Wally
I'm still struggling to get my head around this, but it does makes a little more sense this way. I do like the idea of a 3D representation, though: I suspect that would indeed make the layout properly clear.

Can't recall where I stumbled on this recently but thought it might interest some dwellers here - a 1980s doco about the duo who created the SpecDrum interface, and what they did next: https://youtu.be/RVLOeINDN-Q

Thanks. That wasn't on my radar at all. Doesn't really give me the 'feels' though. Probably a bit too Russian.+3code wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 1:21 pm The Sprinter and some other Russian clones, I think.

Re: Commodore 64 - bear with me!
Does the Amstrad e-mailer come under that remit? Allegedly it could load Spectrum games, somehow, though it was on a black and white LCD screen so I can't see how it would have worked... Off the wall but yeah, bang on - I’d completely forgotten about that. Pretty sure I secured the first review of ...

Commodore 64 - bear with me!
So I was flicking through some old copies of Computeractive magazine, circa 1998, when I stumbled on this little story in the News section: https://i.postimg.cc/CZgJJbHV/D7-D317-D7-22-AB-4-FA5-AD55-BA07-E8-E6-B60-A.jpg Now, I worked on this magazine back then but have only minimal recollection of th...

Re: World Pizza Day
It seems today, 9th february, is the International Pizza Day . I can't remember now any pizza appearing in games... anyone? ... and happy pizza day, BTW! ;) I might be wrong but I don’t recall pizza delivery being much of a thing in the early 1980s, at least. Heck, the first Domino’s didn’t open in...

Thanks all. Let's just say that last night's "a bit drunk" became this morning's "OMFG, my head!". And on a school night, too.

Which emulator? (Sorry!)
Yes, I really should know better. But heck, I'm not new around these parts and I figure you can all take one for this particular a-bit-drunk member of the team. Yes I've Googled but... SpecEmu is leading me nowhere currently. I'm not averse to paying but I try to avoid a-bit-drunk purchases. So, ple...

Re: Games with hand-drawn "screenshots"
I just managed to get a copy of Wriggler which has been on my wish list for a while. The inlay contains screenshots that aren't really screenshots. Wriggler is really interesting to me. There was some or other magazine advert that featured those same hand-drawn screens, and I used to pore over them...
