Re: Zaxxon, should have been better for 1985

weren't the realities the same for Commando (or, if you want any-direction scrolling, for Critical Mass ) in the same 1985? No. Commando and Critical Mass were released in November 1985 and were, with the exception of Nigel Alderton's work on Street Hawk, the developers only releases of the ...

Re: Zaxxon, should have been better for 1985

While Zaxxon was 1985, it was only just 1985, released in early January. To put it into context, Ghostbusters was at number one, and Ultimate were in-between Knight Lore and Alien 8. Vortex had released Cyclone around 6 weeks earlier and Highway Encounter didn't come out until July 1985, around the ...

Re: The best rereleased Speccy game by Alternative Software: discussion

Also, while Frightmare and Fallen Angel did appear under the Summit brand, they are also part of 4Most Fight & Fright, so count as Alternative re-releases. Well, if you're adding re-releases from Summit/React/Winner on the 4 Most compilations then you do need: The Double from 4 Most Balls, Boot...

Re: The best rereleased Speccy game by Alternative Software: discussion

There were other brands owned by Alternative Software, such as Summit, Winner and React, who also reissued games from Alternative Software's acquisition of other company's software archives. I'll be covering those later on this month. Let me know if there's a mistake with anything in the above. Tha...

Re: But really, why didn't the Speccy have a definitive football game?

I'll need to check this out. I don't think it made much impact when originally released. Emlyn Hughes International Soccer is by a long way the most successful non-management football game on the Spectrum, and on the C64 too. It was denied the number one position by RoboCop for a few months in earl...

Very good read. Speaking of ocean - " It was responsible for the two titles bundled with the machine and was quick to create 128K versions of all its new games. Later on it was also the first major publisher to drop support for the 48K altogether " Is this true? I hadn't heard it before. ...

Re: Idea for a new voting series...

The drawback is that it'll be the best-selling games, so obscurities (especially those that have gone onto a brilliant afterlife recognised as a classic long after the market went 'meh' on original release ) may well never appear. Not just obscurities, there are quite a few high profile games that ...

I think we can agree to disagree on that one @StooB. Powering off. I didn't write your search code, I'm just explaining why it returns the results it does using the data it has. If you don't like the results change the code. It's your site. Also, change the publisher of Chain Reaction to Durell. Fo...

Re: Chain Reaction - Durrell or Elite as publisher?

So if I'm Joe Blogs searching for Durell under publisher, it won't appear. That doesn't seem sensible to me at all. Joe Bloggs should be using the general search, not the advanced search. If you're going to specifically search for Durell as publisher then it shouldn't appear as Elite is the publish...

Thanks @StooB, Just used advanced search with the title name, and publisher as durell and I got no results. The games authors are listed as Durell in the database so it will always come up on a search for Durell regardless of what the publisher is listed as.

A distributed by Electronic Arts label. In fact, it’s even bigger than the Elite text mention on the Chain Reaction cover. But they’re both listed as originally published by Martech in the DB. If we’re going with the same rules as Chain Reaction, then does that not mean The Fury and Rex should be d...
