Re: Announcing our new scoring system

Once there are a reasonable number of votes entered we will add additional reports. I have a little concern regarding publishing individual users votes without permission. It's of course possible though and I'm sure we can come to a consensus in the future. All the data is stored. For now please co...

Re: Announcing our new scoring system

Great job to everyone involved!

Can't find my nor anyone else's vote overview. Since the idea is based on Lemon64's system I'm guessing it's there somewhere, maybe I'm missing something?

Re: Pregnancy Test Doom

In today's 'Weird devices to play Doom' episode: Pregnancy test. It's cheating a bit though. ;) You might be wondering, how the hell is this even possible on an extremely simple gadget such as a pregnancy tester? Well...it isn't. Foone is cheating a little; he had to replace the pregnancy tester's ...

Thanks, good to know! If using a modern interface one could always double check with the manufacturer, like you said.

Re: Wireless joystick

While on the topic of Mega Drive controllers. As they deviate a bit from the Atari joystick port standard, I would like to know if they are safe to use with the Spectrum and a Kempston interface? I use a 64JPX with my SEGA pads when connecting to my C64 to avoid blowing the CIA. Quote from https://w...

Re: The best modern Speccy game beginning with T: discussion

Three Octopuses for me. I'm not usually into escort games as I often find them frustrating, but this is just the opposite. Such a fun, well crafted piece of software. It's also one of those rare cases when an AGD game doesn't look, play nor feel like an AGD game.

Re: 'Inspired by' suggestion.

Seems this thread has been overlooked, so I'll give this a bump. Would be nice if the following games mentioned above could have an "inspired by". Crime Busters – inspired by Mappy (Arcade) Pi There! - inspired by I, Robot (Arcade) Robon – inspired by Berzerk (Arcade) Kamikaze – inspired b...

Re: Little bugs in the database 4

Aliens (US Version) has the wrong text instructions. Not only is it for the wrong game (it's actually for Aliens ) but it's not even a proper transcription. Since the latter game already has a valid text file I suggest deleting the offending article. Hopefully someone can transcribe or scan the ins...

Re: What games do you enjoy playing on other 8bit computers

If strictly speaking about home-micros and no consoles, then Samurai Warrior – The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo is my favourite Commodore 64 game. Not an exclusive, but a vastly different experience when compared to the Spectrum version. The combat in the original c64 version is explosive, dynamic and p...

Interesting! Thanks for the insight guys! :)

I know the Master System did generally well in the UK, unfortunately some people seem to equate that with total domination of europe.

Re: High Score - retrogaming history series on Netflix

... Just that while the Nintendo Entertainment System was as common as, well, water, at the time, over here in Europe it barely made a ripple , even the Master System was more in use and that didn't worry the home computing scene. I keep hearing this over and over, mostly by UK residents, and it's ...

Re: Frumpy

Great! Though after a level is completed you might want to check that no keys (or joystick input) are being pressed before polling for retry/continue. If the player keeps holding left to complete the level (ex. on Don't You Open That Trap Door!) there's a risk that Retry is accidentally selected.

Re: Frumpy

'Kill Screen' was both a reference to those screens in old arcade games like Donkey Kong or Pacman where you end up a screen that kills you immediately due to the game logic overflowing and a warning of things to come for the last screen (I re-used that horrible jump that used to be in 'The Ol' Swi...

Re: Frumpy

Took me about an hour and a half to play through, with the last screen (aptly named Kill Screen) taking about 45 minutes or so by itself. Pixel perfect timing and jumps aren't that prevalent in the other stages, but here it was just one after the other. Though I got pretty consistent up to the last ...

Whatever name he has, it's a hard job... badly paid, probably In the c64 version he laughs heartily before dragging the body away, so he seems to enjoy himself at least. ;) Well, in Barbarian the main hero actually has no name. We have Drax, princess Mariana but the barbarian is actually called Bar...

Re: C64 Standard Bitmap Mode (320 x 200)

Sorry but I think this "fixed" palette still looks mostly brown and purple! That might well be. :) The point was; there are different palettes in circulation, none of them entirely correct. On my 1084 I can see a slight orange tint to a few colours, which may explain the "brown"...
