Re: Game of the day...

A very well made game. Really like it. Still prefer Ikari Warriors, though.

Re: Preserving device firmwares?

Is there interest in listing / hosting device firmwares? Absolutely. A year or so ago, I was looking for the Currah µSource firmware and finally managed to find it on some obscure website as part of a larger BIN file. The file wasn’t exactly 16K, so I had to spend quite some time trying to figure o...

Not in 128K mode. Should work in 48K mode, though. Fewer keystrokes, too. ;)

Re: Demoscene subforum

Some demos are indeed impressive, but for the most part I’d rather they were confined to their respective online presence locations. I’d be fine if someone occasionally posted a link to a demo somewhere in the general area of this forum, but having a dedicated subform? No, thank you.

Re: Sub forums for the Programming section

I, for one, would be happy if the section would be called Assembly, rather than Assembler. BASIC-wise—not sure how I’d prefer it. The Spectrum dialect is called Sinclair BASIC, but I understand there are quite a few popular complied BASICs that people use nowadays. Just BASIC, perhaps?

Re: Improved handling of displaying new posts

Okay, hikoki provides this link, which explains the intended behavior: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2426831#p14760126 It’s still a half-backed solution, unfortunately, because it doesn’t work for threads with no new posts. For example, to make this post I had to find thi...

Re: Improved handling of displaying new posts

I hope that solves the problem? Nope. It’s a little odd that there are no more configurable options. Virtually all forums that I know of take you to the first unread post in any thread. Simply having a link to the latest post is, well, virtually meaningless. You could always click the last page man...

Re: Improved handling of displaying new posts

You can set the post ordering on your personal settings. If you choose date » descending, you get newest first. Of course, but that’s a lousy workaround. In English, we read left to right, top to bottom; replies appear below the original post; the timeline extends downward. Besides, that still will...

Improved handling of displaying new posts

I noticed that when I click a thread, it opens the first page and displays the first post on it. It would be much more convenient, if instead it would jump straight to the first unread post in that thread. I normally go to Quick links -> New posts. Then click the threads I’m interested in. Unfortuna...

Re: Forum Ranks

Are “ranks” just a label awarded every certain number of posts? In that case, I couldn’t care less. An odd metric, in my book. A combination of the number of posts (perhaps even posts marked as “helpful” or something similar) and membership period would be a much better representation of the term “r...

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum

Use the floating bus trick for syncing and IM2 for music only? I'm outside my comfort zone already. I understand how to use the floating bus to wait for the top or bottom part of the screen, but I don't see how it helps here. Wouldn't the program still need to wait for the fb? Well, the FB can land...
