Re: Magazines

Yip, that’d be my preferred option, too. Easiest, less hassle, doesn’t affect the current model and if you do need those reports, hardly the most difficult either.

Re: Magazines

OK, I was having some further thoughts about this as a continuation from above. Since I don't have all the data, I'm guessing that a magazine having multiple publishers is the exception rather than the rule. If that's the case, then in my first option, having LABEL_ID on the magazine issues table is...

Re: Magazines

Yip, i'd follow @Andyc suggestion. I can think of a couple of ways to do it, 1 better than the other and, note, I've not looked at the ZXDB DB. Assuming there may be a detail table hanging off of the magazines table listing each issue for each publication, then simply adding the LABEL_ID to this det...

Re: Spectrum namedrops...

I've been lucky enough to do portraits of quite a few video game related people over the past few years. Spectrum related ones include Ste Pickford and Charles Cecil. Sort of Spectrum related, I've done a couple of (now ex) Rare employees, including : Kev Bayliss, who designed the characters for Kil...

Re: Tournament Arkanoid

Nah, I also find the Arkanoid and Tournament Arkanoid bat controlling a bit on the tricky side. Revenge of Doh, on the other hand, I have no problems with. It's the inertia that seems to be a bit iffy on A and TA, but there's non on RoD. I'm sure with a bit of practice I'd get used to it again.

Re: What are your thoughts on "mismatched" game music?

I'm with you all the way on this and I find it very off putting, so much so, I just won't play the game. I admit that sounds a bit over the top (LOL LIKE THE MUSIC AMIRITE?) but it just doesn't work as a whole. Not that the music is rubbish or anything - far from it! - it's just like making a nice s...

Re: NEW THEME! for the Spectrum Computing Forums

druellan The new dark mode is great, thank you! A couple of wee issues I’ve noticed: When clicking on “Mark forum as read” it displays a blank box with the dotted line in black. It may be displaying the text and is probably white on the white background When doing a mention of another user, like wh...

I seem to recall something along the lines of Mastertronic asking or getting David Jones to help or give advice or something along those lines but I’m not entirely sure on that.

Re: Did anyone actually use joysticks?

Could you play any games with two joysticks? Chase hq, one joy left and right and fire is gear, the other controls speed and brake and turbo?? :D :D Let me tell you of my Chase HQ control method. You need 2 joysticks and the keyboard - you define the keys with Up on 1st joystick as the accelerator,...

Re: Little bugs in the database 5

From what I’m aware you are correct. They were indeed developed by Codemasters originally for the Defender Lightgun and not released before or after by them.

They were then released by Virgin Mastertronic where they could be played using Keyboard, Joystick and the Magnum Lightphaser.

Re: BBC special BBC Prom celebrating music in video games

The Chronos arrangement was a bit out there - they even played the game loading, but it was absolutely fantastic. I happened to channel surf onto it midway through the performance and immediately recognised it. It was nice that it was in there amongst a lot of Japanese have music. Just a thing, thou...
