I’ve gone for Valhalla. Spent ages playing and never really go anywhere.
I had Vindicator when I was in that god awful postal computer club bobbins. The game was utter tripe.

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with V: vote
Had to think about this a bit before voting.
Was originally tempted by Valhalla, but I never really got into it BITD because I couldn't figure out what to do, probably because I had a <cough>copy<cough> with no instructions. Each time I've gone back to it since I've been a bit put off by how sluggish it is to render the characters and react to your input.
After a bit of consideration I voted for Vera Cruz.
It's a game style I was quite taken with when I first played it, something a bit different and I quite enjoyed looking around the crime scenes (although I guess you can try systematically sweeping across and down the screen to find everything if you want).

Yup. Missed out on quite a few great games precisely because of the same, uh, problem.

..Goes to show how many of us had the 'original' of Jetpac, it tells you the 'hover' key in the instructions, but strangely nobody was aware of it...Ast A. Moore wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 10:23 pm

My vote went to Viking Raiders. Simple UDG graphics & great fun.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with V: vote
It stood between Vegetable Crash and Viking Raiders for me.
The former is somewhat of a guilty pleasure. It can be totally unfair at points, like respawning right on top of an enemy or getting a bullet pattern that is simply impossible to avoid no matter how quick you are. Though the cute graphics and quick restart after a game over keeps me playing it regardless. It's flawed but fun.
Now Viking Raiders I've played quite a bit and even though it can feel unfair at times when playing against the CPU, it's still a simple, functional and fun little strategy game. I think the multiplayer aspect adds longevity as well.
Went with Viking Raiders in the end.

Hard choice this time.
I missed in my life the early classics like Valhalla or Viking Raiders. I never played them, I don't know how to play them, people say that they are good but personally I just don't know.
There are games here that could be great, that should be great but they weren't - V, Vindicator, Vixen, Vigilante.
Finally I voted for Viaje al Centro de la Tierra. It's a very pretty and big Spanish megagame but still it lacks something so it could be fully enjoyed. But having other options I cohose this one.

Voted for Voyage into Uknown because it makes all the other games look great.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with V: vote
Went for Valhalla. Was quite a clever game BITD even though I hadn't a clue what I was doing. I think the only thing I ever did of consequence was to enter a swear word and get the "Mary is not amused" response and get my character beat up.
Never properly played many of the others in the list although, from the reviews, I was always intrigued by Vera Cruz but never got around to it.
I did try and play Vectron a couple of times but that was just bewildering. Playing it reminded of that Jasper Carrott story about him visiting an amusement arcade.

I never expected Valhalla it would lead the poll!

I think V has been the crappiest letter so far?
Tim Follin's tune grabs my vote for Vectron.

I almost voted for Valhalla but went for Valkyrie 17 in the end. I love a bit of espionage.

I'm surprised not to see Video Olimpic with its Cocaina ads
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with V: vote
I voted Victory* Road.
Even though the concept has more than a touch of Renegade 3 about it, the game itself is very solid; it even adds a few features that aren't in Ikari Warriors. So even though it's a bit of a lazy cash-in, it's possibly the most polished and enjoyable games to play in this list.
Having said that, I actually want Viking Raiders or Valhalla to win. They're original and have the Spiwit of the Spectrum.
*(And remember, you don't pronounce it "Vik-Tor-Ree", it's "Veek-turrr-ihhh")

I stuck to the game that I nominated, The Very Big Cave Adventure, although I did think about registering about 15 different accounts on here just so that I could vote for Voyage Into The Unknown every time.
I've never played Valhalla so, based on how many votes it has, I might just give it a go.

Am trying to remember if I've actually played Viking Raiders. Not sure I have.

Are you saying that—unlike everyone else—you haven't done a full appraisal of every single game in the list before voting?
I was totally objective before the 'M' vote for example, I had no idea what I was going to vote for beforehand...
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with V: vote
I've based all my votes only on the games i played all those years ago and whichever got the most playtime from me, or brought back the most vivid memories. For those letters than presented multiple voting possibilites for me i chose the game that i thought i would also most like to re-visit and play today. Quazatron i can go back to forever, Frank N Stein was so good, Chuckie Egg (even Chuckie Egg2), i can still play these today and love them...
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...

Vectron for me.
Nice border effect on the main screen and brilliant introductory music are just a bonus for this great game.

OK, so how many of the 2 voters for Vixen were swayed by the poster...
