I call for a government shut down.

I'm also tempted to change my vote, just to break the stalemate but I just can't bring myself to do it. WTSS is impressive but flawed, once you know how to win you can do so easily and skip most of what is in the game. WOTEF is just a better game.
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
+1 from me! If someone wants to do it and record an RZX.
I believe there was a +1 from Morkin too.

Yup.
Though remember, you can draw games in Chaos

Try this program I just wrote.
10 RANDOMIZE 1: IF RND<0.5 THEN PRINT "WTSS": STOP
20 PRINT "WOTEF": STOP
10 RANDOMIZE 1: IF RND<0.5 THEN PRINT "WTSS": STOP
20 PRINT "WOTEF": STOP

That's biased towards WOTEF!

Following the logic of this thread, if we execute the program, it will display 'variable not found' or nonsense in basic' definitely!
Let's face it, this thread is cursed!

Only slightly, the RANDOMIZE 1 guarantees the first value of RND will be 0.0022735596 every time!
RANDOMIZE 0 would also have a tiny bias wouldn't it?
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
How about this:
10 LET wotef=0: LET wtss=0
20 LET coin=INT (RND*2)
30 IF coin=0 THEN LET wotef=wotef+1
40 IF coin=1 THEN LET wtss=wtss+1
50 PRINT wotef;",";wtss,
60 IF wtss<>0 THEN PRINT wotef/wtss;
70 PRINT: GO TO 20
10 LET wotef=0: LET wtss=0
20 LET coin=INT (RND*2)
30 IF coin=0 THEN LET wotef=wotef+1
40 IF coin=1 THEN LET wtss=wtss+1
50 PRINT wotef;",";wtss,
60 IF wtss<>0 THEN PRINT wotef/wtss;
70 PRINT: GO TO 20

Let's make this easier....
your mate has a copy of Mire Mare, it's in two 48k parts, both about 6 minutes per part.
You have original tape versions of Exploding Fist and Time Stood Still, but without the original boxes or inlays (you bought the tapes from John Menzies as they were the bargain bucket because some thieving bast nicked the box from the shelf). Each side of the tape can hold one part of the game. You can't borrow the tape from your mate, you can't record over another tape and you can't bung one part on one side of one tape and the other part on to the other tape. One tape and both sides has to be wiped.
Oh, and MIre Mare is an excellent game!
Which game do you record over?

That's easy.
Over WTSS, because I only had a 48k model.

I'd record over both tapes, one to keep and one to sell on eBay in 30 years time...
Then I'd break into my mate's house that night and nick their copy as well

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
If my mate mate had MireMare then he’s clearly from a rich family and a spoiled little turd. As this is the case i’ll just steal MireMare from him whilst he’s making me a somewhat flat, E number filled drink from his SodaStream.
When his folks find him crying they’ll just buy him another copy of MireMare, but, this time it’ll be in a special lockable gold case.
I think the best way to settle this debate is for us to all realise that WOTEF is clearly the better game.

Well, I don't agree with the result but it's hard to argue with the result of this epic confrontation...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
Good enough for me. I hope you aren't suggesting that Chaos could be mistaken?!
Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
Love it..!
That's one of the things I love about Chaos. Halfway through that game I'd have put any money on the second wizard winning, after seeing the undead-heavy series of summons.
..But then a single successful 'raise dead' on the lion by the first wizard, leading to the death of the wraith, and the match is turned on its head.
Julian Gollop is a genius...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
Can't we just class this one as a tie and move on?

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: tiebreaker vote
I'm half tempted to let the Chaos match be the decider.
But then again, having a tie between two games just shows how well loved they were!

Has to be Where Time Stood Still because, as much as I hate to say it, the Commodore 64 version of Way of the Exploding Fist was better.
There wasn't another 8-bit version of WTTS, making it unique to the Spectrum, so that gets my vote.
