The best classic Speccy game beginning with W: 2nd tie-breaker vote

Yes, it's deja vu, it is the same poll as last time that ended in a tie. But hey, here we go again and hopefully there is one clear winner...

I voted Fist here. But that's because I didn't have a 128K Spectrum, so have only ever played Where Time Stood Still on emulators after the fact, whereas Way Of The Exploding Fist was a big favourite in my house when it came out. For that reason (which I fully understand is slightly sentimental) I couldn't really vote any other way. Where Time Stood Still might actually be the better game, all told, but I simply can't be entirely objective about it.

It would be criminal for WOTEF to win this! It might be a classic and a favourite but there's no question that WTSS is a vastly superior game.

Once you know how to beat WTSS, it's disappointing easy and you realise just how paper thin it actually is. Games like Great Escape did a very similar thing but much better. I did love the music from it though.

I remember WTSS being pretty deep, with multiple characters and all -- and of course it came after The Great Escape. However, it's true that I can't actually remember how to beat the game, so perhaps it's much simpler than I remember. I guess I need to go replay it!

In fact both games are easy to play.

The good thing about The Great Escape is there are different ways (different objects to use, etc) to finish the game. This encourages to game again with a diferent strategy once you completed it.

You must follow your heart, it's not for others to influence you. You probably need an extended session of playing Zythum and that will show you the way. Zythum, after all, holds all the answers to these difficult questions.

It certainly feels like that when you first start playing it. Once you get the hang of it though, it becomes obvious the developers never quite managed to expand on many of the ideas in the way they had probably intended and all the different characters and events are largely irrelevant. I think it's one of those games where the concept ended up being too big for the hardware it was targeted at - if it had been a 16-bit exclusive it's possible they could have expanded upon it much further.

Oh my!!

Just realized I posted this!

Why I was talking about The Great Escape when it isn't in the poll?

Today it's been a stressed day... sorry!

Well unlike Juan I've decided to vote for one of the games that's actually in the poll, and gone for Fist.

I liked the game world atmosphere created in WTSS, but I never really got into the actual game that much. Tended to get pushed off cliffs or chomped by dinosaurs a bit much for my liking.

Probably because myself and 5MinuteRetro both mentioned it in comparison to WTSS.

Getting pretty close again.

I'm not sure what effect yet another tie break will have on our wellbeing...

We extend this to Halloween. Problem solved...

But seriously, I have never voted in the W tie-breaker votes. You see, I have played a bit of Where Time Stood Still (my friend was heavily into it, me, not so much, I actually preferred Terramex, which is not far off WTTS, except it's obviously 2D and a bit cartoony). However, I have never played The Way Of The Exploding Fist. This is why I didn't vote.

If voting comes to a 50/50 tie again on Sunday, I'm going to give Way Of The Exploding Fist a go. Actually, I should probably start that now, play for at least an hour so I can form a solid view of it. Then I'll vote and hopefully break the deadlock. And then we restart the # vote, and by Sunday 21st, we will know the complete A-Z(+#) of the best classic Speccy games. And then start the post-commercial-era homebrew A-Z(+#) polls...

It's bizarre to be thinking that WTSS and WOTEF are facing off against each other in a poll, as they're very different games from different genres. It really is apples versus oranges. I know they're both really good though, so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised.

Very disappointing if a C64 conversion wins "classic Speccy game" over a title that was Spectrum exclusive at the time of release. All WotEF voters are urged to reconsider!

This really should have been left as a tie.
