Choosing one game from this list is pure idiocy, IMO - no offence intended :)

I'd rather have ranked them in order, and assign 27 points to the one I liked most, and one point to the one I liked least. If everyone did that I feel that we might get a better overall feel for which games are the best, rather than which simply got the most votes - especially because when you're forced to choose one when you love several your criteria may well change. Mine did - I loved Target: Renegade to bits, but best game? Nah, it's way too easy, much like Robocop was (which holds a special place in my heart).

I spent way too much time on Manic Miner, love it, love it, love it.

I didn't love Deathchase as much as those two, but I feel it is the better game - none of the others are anything like as thrilling to play.

So basically whatever gets voted "The Best Classic Spectrum game", the one that will achieve that top accolade, to be known around here forever after as the best of the best.....will be because maybe just 9 or 10 people end up voting for it?

Good Luck laughing that one off in the future!

You'll be OK here then, I only chat about the really nasty stuff that went on with other old-coders, the libel laws prevent us from putting it on the record.

Anyway, back to the voting.

All these polls are what they're really are: a good excuse for talking about Spectrum games (which I think it's not a bad thing!). That's all.

The winner will be just and only the winner of this poll, obviously everyone has in mind their own best games.

And what's more... how can we take seriously these polls when , in the F one, Fred only got one vote??? ;)

So back to voting, that there's currently a triple draw!

I agree, but phpBB forum doesn't allow for that. Unless, you mean that I have to ask people to write out their list of 27 games and points, and then manually work it all out at my end. To have that going on, with no real-time graph, I'd say it'd be rather unattractive for people to vote in. We wouldn't be up to 48 votes as we are now. And there's a problem in that you can't express apathy on certain games. "Rank these 27 games" seems like a good idea but most people haven't played them all. There are about three games in the list I personally couldn't care less about.

But I'm certainly not saying it's the best. It's a ludicrous system, and I've said that as the A-Z has been going on. It's rather illogical to have Chase HQ pitted against Chaos, Exolon versus Elite, Hobbit vs Head Over Heels, etc, as that's very 'apples versus oranges', but everyone's at least familiar with the A-Z concept.

This ongoing concept came up because I initially started a thread where I simply listed the alphabet, stuck Chaos (my own personal favourite) next to C and then asked people to quote-respond and stick their favourite game in. Again, a daft silly idea, but it was put to me that we should get a forum-wide vote for each letter, and so, here we are.

Whichever game tops this poll, it'll be the best out of this daft system.

For a purer outcome, well, The Other Place has R-Type first-placed in their Top 100.

I wouldn't put any faith in that - "Due to rampant voting abuse for this game, you can no longer vote for it."

I sense a new series of polls for each genre in our near future...

There'll be some arguments over genres, I guess.

I think the one thing we can do objectively (aside from the homebrew version of the A-Z polls), is 'Best game by [software house]' polls. Dead easy to kick it off with all 16 Ultimate games for the Speccy.

This morning, Manic Miner had eight votes and Knight Lore seven.
Now is the reverse KL 8, MM 7. :)
How is that?

Nice rule.
That means, in the last minute of voting Zythum can win!

Looks like it's between Skool Daze and Manic Miner at the moment...

[Edit: oh no, though Skool Daze had more votes than that... ]

Seems we have a winner... 'The best of the best'.

Shall we organize a ceremony to present the trophy?

Wow. Manic Miner gets it. I'm surprised because it looked unlikely earlier; a few people changed their vote at the last minute.

Obviously, I agree with this outcome!

Does anyone think it's a travesty? I reckon they won't be many, even if it's not your cup of tea.

I think we should mark with a Manic Miner games club.

Yes.

I'm pretty happy with this to be honest. MM is indeed a great game.

The first three places are absolutely deserved in that particular order.
I am also very pleased that my favorite game Manic Zythum won, fallowed by two other immortal classics, Skool Zythum and Knight Zythum.
This vote was a great journey, so let's vote again, about something new. ;)

Will there now be a poll for the worst game released in each letter category or am I pushing my luck? :D

Congratulations to Mr Willy, I guess we could have predicted that result and saved ourselves 26+ polls...

Nah only kidding, I enjoyed the silly discussions and contributing to them. :)

A "favourite game by software house x" might be a good one. Unless everyone is fed up with polls...
