The best Speccy game by Bug-Byte: vote

Post by PeteProdge »

Right then, the first of the software house polls, and we're looking at Bug-Byte, who published a certain subterranean platform game that's struck a chord with a lot of you. Like yesterday's FA Cup final, there seems to be an inevitable winner. But hey, I'm running this poll anyway, which concludes at about 8:20am UK time next Sunday.

Also, if you'd like to write down your three favourite Bug-Byte games in order, like this
1) Game you like the best
2) Game you like the second best
3) Game you like the third best
...then I'll manually compile up a separate poll based on a '1 = three points/2 = two points/3 = one point' formula. That'll at least keep things interesting.

Here we go...

I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...

Very sorry but the plucky underdog did end up getting my vote. I was in turmoil over the decision, if it's any reassurance.

To nobody's surprise, Manic Miner wins. 14 votes cast for this highly prolific platformer, a game that is often cited, alongside Chuckie Egg and Jet Set Willy, as one of the must-haves for the ZX Spectrum. That's an incredible 58% of the vote, and of course, the others didn't really stand much of a chance.

As I always said, in spite of how deserved Manic Miner's win is, the interesting thing is seeing what comes second.

Well, that would be - jointly - Antics; Kung-Fu; Styx and Turmoil. Two votes each for those.

In third place, again jointly - Sodov The Sorcerer and Twin Kingdom Valley.

"Hold on Pete!", you may ask. "Didn't you run some kind of proportionally representative poll running alongside the forum's FPTP one?"

Indeed I did.

Again, it's no surprise to see that Manic Miner tops that poll, with 26 points earned. (3 points for being 1st placed by a user; 2 points for being 2nd; 1 point for being 3rd).

Jointly in second is Antics and Styx (9 points each). Interesting that both these games also game joint second in the FPTP poll.

Third is Turmoil (5 points).

Fourth is Cavern Fighter (3 points).

Fifth place is jointly Birds And The Bees; Fridge Frenzy and Sodov The Sorcerer (2 points each).

Sixth place is jointly Kung Fu and Rapscallion.

There we go...

26 Manic Miner
9 Antics
9 Styx
5 Turmoil
3 Cavern Fighter
2 Birds And The Bees
2 Fridge Frenzy
2 Sodov The Sorcerer
1 Kung Fu
1 Rapscallion
