Bouncing Bomb - Redux is a superb arcade game, fantastic graphics and animation.
It is very difficult though, but still extremely playable and repetitive.
Warcraft clone Black Raven is also great, wonderful music, I dont know if theres a version for the original Spectrum models or just for Russian clones?

Here's a couple of well above average games not mentioned so far:

Baldy ZX. Uncomplicated fun. I think it's the only game I've completed on my ZX-Vega (non-plus!)
Byte me. Verrry nice music, graphics and personality.

However, I feel this simply has to be Buzzsaw+ or Bouncing Bomb Redux, maybe followed by Balachor's Revenge. As yet, I haven't a clue how to decide.
