The best modern Speccy game beginning with E: vote

Post by PeteProdge »

Here we go! Obviously, plenty of things featuring the Spectrum's second-most prolific platforming ovoid. And lots of other curious oddities. Seven days, people...

Tough choice. I'm stuck between Egghead Entertains and Elixir Vitae...

I think I've played very briefly only a couple of these.

I felt it should be an Egghead, and went for Egghead 4. Unfortunately I split the vote between Egghead 4,5,6 in doing so. There's a lot going for 5 & 6, but overall I prefer the personality of Egghead Entertains.

Encyclopedia Galactica is very interesting and attempts to 'push the envelope', but it's not quite absorbing enough and doesn't feel the finished article.

Eugene is a MOD masterpiece. Vidar Eriksen is obviously a few notches above the rest of us.

Like JBVG's other games, Effugit delivers comedy and you never know what to expect.

1 - Egghead 4
2 - Eugene - Lord of the Bathroom

Top spot goes to the game whose loading screen is frequently seen on this forums, as R-Tape uses it as his profile pic.

Yep, with 4 votes, EFMB: Endless Forms Most Beautiful is the winner.

Second place goes to The Eggsterminator.

Joint third place with 2 votes each: Encyclopeadia Galactica and Eugene - Lord Of The Bathroom.

Joint fourth place: EggHead 4 (EggHead Entertains); EggHead 5 (EggHead Round The Med); EggHead 6 (EggHead Goes To Town); Elixir Vitae; Eln M With Jetpack and Escape From The Sewers.

Proportionately, though...

7 Eugene - Lord Of The Bathroom
4 EggHead 4: EggHead Entertains
3 Eggsterminator, The
2 EFMB
1 Effugit
1 EggHead 6: EggHead Goes To Town

I bet he has been brainwashing everyone all these years just to win this poll!

Thanks for the votes all!

I'm a bit surprised, but I'm glad that people overlook some of its quirks and enjoy it enough to vote for it. Of the many games I've done in this platformy/teleportery genre, EFMB is not my favourite—I like Stamp Quest more on personality, and The Lost Tapes of Albion more for polish and playability.

I'm normally a big proponent of a proportional voting system, however, in this isolated case I must say first past the post is an excellent idea

I fired up Eugene-Lord of the Bathroom this afternoon. It's superb, but bloody hell it's hard.

And now he's trying to convince us to vote for his games in another 2 polls too!!!

I'd never do such a thing. Say for the sake of example that the "M" poll was coming up, there would be an option to vote for Mole Rat, but I wouldn't start a subliminal campaign to plant the thought that everyone should vote for Mole Rat. I'd hope people objectively look at the choices, and make an informed decision to vote for what they believe is the best game. Whether or not they vote for Mole Rat is beside the point.

Anyway, the "M" poll is ages away, so there would be no point in trying to convince people to vote for Mole Rat now, would there?

EDIT: don't worry - I'm not going to run with this one

Well once again due to Morkin's 'holiday week' this one was missed too.

I was about to say I would have stuck EFMB straight at number one, but then I remembered Effugit, I really loved playing that game for some strange reason. So just because for some reason the 50p bribe from R-Tape took a bit too long to reach my bank account I'd probably have gone for:

1. Effugit
2. EFMB
3. Eggsterminator
