Okay, so Round 1 is now live. Do your worst!

The games pool after submissions from this thread is now 49 strong. Each round I will randomly nominate two of them. The pool is now closed, we have more than enough for the whole season.

There were some duplicates in submissions, so some of you folks can nominate extra games to make up the 5-each choice quota, if you wish. As follows:

PeterJ - 1 extra game (for Bomb Jack & PSSST!, you had 6 entries thou)
R-Tape - 1 extra game (for Parsec)
DouglasReynholm - 1 extra game (for Arkanoid 2, because Arkanoid has already been nominated...)
Freespirit - 2 extra games (for Target Renegade & Bomb Jack)
Juan F. Ramirez - 2 extra games (for Deathchase & Bomb Jack)
clebin - 1 extra game (for PSSST!)

Alessandro - you have submitted a huge list of games so I picked the first 5 for now. Feel free to refine it and whittle it down to 5 favourites if you want. And please include Laser Squad! (or I will...also my fave ZX game) ...the idea of playing it for points is exhilirating :D

This season will have 10 rounds x 2 games each = 20 games, so of course not all of our choices will feature. So, pray to the RNG god!

Ta for organising akeley.

Choices, choices. I'll take Midnight Resistance for my fifth game.

Hi akeley, do you mean you picked:

- Cop-Out
- Ant Attack
- Worse Things Happen At Sea
- Split Personalities

and I can suggest 5 games more?

Yes, I picked these, but meant that if you'd like to change this selection to some other games from your list you still can (everybody has 5 games quota)

All right. So I'll say:

- Ant Attack
- Lunar Jetman
- Travel With Trashman
- Split Personalities
- Laser Squad,
scenario "Laser Platoon", difficulty 4

That should be enough for a start! ;)

I also suggest we play Ant Attack with Tyrone C.'s new keys hack, much more comfortable than the old one.

I’m probably too late, but in case there’s time to add my last game, can it be Splat! by Incentive?

clebin Didn't you choose one already? I noted your choices as

Chuckie Egg
The Pyramid
Kosmic Kanga
cannonball
Cookie

Though I'm a scatterbrain so maybe made a mistake?

Ah, yes, sorry. I’m a scatterbrain too. I forgot about Cannonball. EDIT: I see it’s in round 2 - cool!

I know we're halfway through the HSC now, being on round 5 and all, and I understand the whole thing about picks possibly not being selected and whatnot, but can I submit a couple of picks nonetheless please? My picks are...

1. Starquake
2. Mikie

Yup, just two. They're probably the only two games I could possibly win at.

GreenCard ok, you're a regular player so I guess we can make an exception ;) I actually thought you did submit some games at the beginning...

Starquake might be tricky to play thou, because of the respawning enemies. I think in Atari HSC they played it for completion or stages or some such.

I've just realised that Juan has had all his choices come up already... :o

Although even more astonishing is that Fred isn't among them...

Not really, this was his first draft but because Bombjack and Deathchase were already picked by others he swapped them for Terra Cresta and Tapper.

I do realize that none of yours have come up yet, Mr Morkin. Sorry, that's the cruelty of the RNG/voting systems. But fear not, there are still many rounds left...and even RNG can be "helped" sometimes ;)

Was that a subtle hint encouraging a bit of bribery...?

I don't actually mind TBH - the games I picked aren't my favourite games or anything, there's just spur-of-the-moment ones. There are enough good/classic games on the list, I'm happy as long as there's something decent. :)

That's the spirit :)

About "helping" the RNG, I did mention it before, I guess that would be really unfair if none of somebody's picks came up, though statistically speaking it should even out somehow.

The question was choosing top quality games!

Seriously (so you were joking??? - Ed), not the proper game for a challenge like this.

No, I thought I wouldn't submit any game suggestions and just play whatever other people chose, just so there would be more chance of finding a gem I'd never played before. :)

I competed with a couple of people over at MySpeccy (remember that site, anyone?) at Starquake. It was good fun! :)
