Rothron, I hope that you don't get upset by this discussion. I really do appreciate your discoveries and work put into this thread.

The really great discovery is the inspiration for Renegade inlay. I'va never seen this before and believed the inlay to be 100% original work.

As for the subject of discussion, I would dare to say that all black guys look the same, just like Chinese ;) Hope that you won't ban me for these words ;)

Not artwork, but this loading screen of "Chambers of Horrors” by Omega Software reminds me of certain character used by a great rock band in their covers back in the 80s...

How dare you suggest such a thing!

I've been diligently researching the origins of the Barbarian cover instead....

Some more possible copies, though I haven't identified the source images.

Great find! I had no idea. I've gone and bought the book—I don't care how good it is.

I remember that book and picture well! Presumably the sword wielding chap in a turban is the stock Boris Vallejo?

When I saw the Harrier pics, my first thought was "anyone for tenous?", but the fireflashes on the guns match perfectly. What was the image source?

Yes. The artist modified the front (nose, vents and cockpit), but copied the rest (fuselage, wings, tails, rocket launches) exactly. As you say, even the fire flashes are identical.

You can see it in this transparent overlay:

I found the image on Google. I don't know where the original artist got it from.

I expect so. I haven't worked out which image, though.

Also used for the Mastertronic M.A.D. Flash Gordon cover - Ming the Merciless’ head (on my phone so cant attach the image)

Looks like it’s the same artist doing both covers

It looks like it was based on the cover of Piece of Mind (1983).
