Commando - lost all my lives at the gate with the soldiers positioned on top of it. Just too much gunfire to deal with.
Rainbow Islands - cripes, I'm rubbish at this game..! Got as far as the first boss.

Ahhh that was it. I had one of those and the massive ball one - The Quickshot IX - which everyone hated at the time but I really loved.

I gave the games a try. Commando is tough as nails for me, but Rainbow Islands is right up my street. I've refrained from posting a score for Patrick Paddle, since it wouldn't be very fair (I wrote the game, after all).

I don't know, I guess I'm just an eternal optimist. I tend to allocate the number of digits first, and then specify the points (then realise that I've given the score way too many digits, but it stays that way because I can't be bothered to go back and change it). Same went for Trace It! - any mortal being would only really be capable of getting a three-digit score, yet the counter can hold six digits (it even has the code to handle score overflow ).

Seconded, I'm blown away. I think you should actually try and strike out with it on other platforms, Android or better yet, Switch - I feel like it could be quite a hit.

I made a lot of progress with Commando early in the week, but after that I kept floundering at the end of level 1. Good game, but I prefer ih-kar-ee.
Rainbow Islands. Tragic. It's a great conversion and usually my kind of game, but I just wasn't up for it this time.
Patrick Paddle. Absolutely love it. It would have been a cool (and probably superhuman) target if it had an 8bit score counter and a kill screen to aim for.

As playable as I remember, though I found once it became a bit of a bulletstorm it got a bit beyond my abilities, though I'm sure I got much further in this game when I first played it. Slick smooth scrolling, frenetic action.

Rainbow Islands



Pretty impressed with this version. Having mainly played the Amiga version I don't reckon it's bad - the gameplay feels similar. For some reason I'm really crap at it though..

Patrick Paddle



Fun game..! With a bit of practice I found myself inching to further levels. It goes to show that if you concentrate on tweaking sprite controls until they're as responsive and slick as they can be, you're guaranteed a half decent game.

Commando: 98750 - as good as I remembered, slick and accurate fire, so deaths feel fair.

Rainbow Island: 101190 - as others have said, not up there with the Ami or Arcade, but just amazing the Speccy can even attempt it!

Patrick's Paddle: £27.90 - my favourite of the three. What a game! This needs more exposure.

RI is so much easier than the arcade version, which I have also played in a HSC recently. Here I got to 3rd boss on my 2nd attempt, in arcade I haven't even got to the second one, despite countless attempts.

Commando is harder, but more playable.

Clebin is still leading the pack, after another strong showing this week. I've managed to claw my way back up from the drop zone depths, yay! Big shout to our new player, PROSM, hopefully he'll stay on, and to folks like Pegaz who have posted scores despite lack of time.
