Battle 1917

Post by textvoyage »

Hi everyone, I've had some more spare time in lockdown and recently discovered and enjoyed Battle 1917

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/4 ... attle_1917

I usually win but not always and it's fun. Can anyone recommend something similar?

It reminded me a little of the Raid part of The Korth Trilogy

A little less fighting in Viking Raiders compared to Battle 1917, still learning it though. I might be developing a crush on Brunhilda the Bold but that's probably down to being in lockdown too long.

Looks like an steeper learning curve in Barbarians, good to see instructions are provided, thanks

If you are after a strategy on 8 bit machine and don't limit yourself to Zx Spectrum I would stronly recommend "His Dark Majesty" for Atari 8 bit.
It's a recent game with many missions, unique unit skills, story and many other interesting twists.

I really enjoyed it and I rarely care to play something for other machine than Spectrum or PC.

Thanks, yes I'll look into this. I remember seeing the Atari 400/800 computers in the 1980s but only ever in shops or magazine adverts, always been curious about them

Wow, 1917 is a real blast from the past. I'm pretty sure this is the game I used to play to death with my friend back in the Eighties, probably my first "multiplayer' experience ever.

I was not really into strategy games back in the day, but one that cought my attention was Zulu Wars https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/5 ... /Zulu_Wars

I really liked how simple it is to control, yet, you really need to think how to move your units to survive, plus, the duality of small troops well trained vs a flood of natives was interesting. It has two maps to play.

Invasion by Bulldog is sort of what you are looking for. Its like a larger scaled Battle 1917 with opposing armies at the top and bottom of the map, and different units cope better with different terrain etc.

Unfortunately the game is less stable than Stonkers, which takes some doing.

Thanks everyone, unfortunately my brain seems to be resisting learning curves at the moment!
