So many wonderful war strategy games. But my vote goes to Vulcan... :)

Oh my goodness. 81 games and i'm ashamed to say i don't think i played a single one. I never liked war games, looks like 90% are war. And even the ones that aren't based on war don't look great. Eek, no vote. What a mammoth post...
I don't have anything cool to put here, so i'll just be off now to see a priest with yeast stuck between his teeth and his friend called Keith who's a hairpiece thief...

2-Arnhem
3-NATO Alert

I've never forgiven C.S.S. for "Byte". The first game I got, as I couldn't quite afford JetPac.
(Then when I was so upset by it, Mum bought me JetPac).

I always got CCS and PSS confused, maybe because PSS made a lot of turn based war games, but PSS games always seemed a bit more accessible to the 12 year old me! But I did appreciate a few of the CCS games when I was older, especially Encyclopaedia of War, which came in a nice big box and had the ability to create your own scenarios. A school friend was really into strategy war games, but Encyclopaedia of War just felt a bit easier to play. It also helped we were studying Julius Caesar in History, it was great playing out some of his battles in it!

However, in saying that I have to say my favourite game is Gangsters!, which has got my vote in this. I had this on a C90 tape someone gave to me - at a time when C90 tapes were a rare thing as cheap tape-to-tape ghetto blasters weren't a thing - and I loved the fact it was quite a deep strategy game but it was easy to pick up, even without the instructions! Since then I've managed to pick up an official copy of the CCS version, which also made me realise this wasn't originally a CCS release. It was originally a "P Boulton Software" release, here's the original cover, so maybe it doesn't count?!!??

I'm not into turn based war games as I don't have the patience for them. So instead I tried several of the other types of games on the list.

1 Gangsters
2 Smuggler
3 1942 Mission

The Prince would have been in the top three had it not been for four players only.

1. Swords Of Bane
2. Cromwell At War
3. War Of The Roses

It was close but Swords Of Bane just pipped the two historical games for me.

Cripes! Yes, you are right. Gangsters should NOT be in this poll, it is indeed C.C.S. doing a rerelease from the P Boulton Software label.

That should have been caught in the 7-day 'discussion' phase of this, but it wasn't, so I'm ignoring ALL votes for it.

If you've voted Gangsters, you still have until Sunday to change your mind to something else!

In that case I've changed my vote to Smuggler and now my top three are:

1. Smuggler
2. 1942 Mission
3. The Prince

We've come to a bit of a tie here!

Four games occupy the top slot, having gained 2 votes each: 180; Arnhem; Swords Of Bane and Vulcan

In joint second place, with 1 vote each: 1942 Mission; Broodslayer; Encyclopedia Of War: Ancient Battles and Smuggler.

I was hoping the proportional voting system might throw us a clear winner or at least narrow it down. Nope! All three people voted for entirely different games to each other, the results are, um, looking like this...

Smuggler 3
Swords Of Bane 3
Vulcan 3
1942 Mission 2
Arnhem 2
Cromwell At War 1642-1645 2
NATO Alert 1
Prince, The 1
War Of The Roses 1

A tie break is needed, I'm concluding it'll be with the top four games in the phpBB poll.
