That's actually a Top 3,600 or so. But I'm very excited to discover from it that I wrote the third-worst Spectrum game of all time, and that someone actually played it all the way to the end, which is more than I ever did 😄

I'll consider it once jdanddiet has finished his list...

From the list so far, only Mikie and They Stole a Million are on mine...

Actually, looking at the screenshot, that's a lake not an ocean.

No Dan Dare? Don't forget 100 games is a lot - after you get past 50 or so the quality and renown of the games is bound to drop off.

I think this is an almost impossible task.
Rebelstar 2 would be my number 1 but I don't know how I'd begin to rank the rest.

I think I'd have to have Marauder higher than Glass. Even though Glass looked good, game play wise it was pretty boring. Marauder, IMO, was another classic Hewson Shmup. As much as I loved trying play Wizball I simply found it too frustrating.

Yes in hindsight Marauder is a tad low. Maybe it'll improve its position next year!

Laser Squad's an excellent game but I'm not a fan of the hidden movement or the rotate and move mechanics.
A lot of 2 player games end with a soldier from each side hiding around a corner, each unable to advance without being caught in the enemiy's opportunity fire!

Rebelstar 2 may only has one scenario but it's a more enjoyable game imho.

The great thing is, is that all three are different enough to enjoy playing still. RS 2 was all about rushing across the map, trying not to get bogged down etc.

Julian wanted RB2 to have more urgency. Let's face it, RB was easy once you worked out the choke points and let the enemy come to you. Even on level 8 difficulty you can just pick them off with a well-organised defence.

Rebelstar 2 you just can't do that, you need to take risks and it adds to the drama, creating a different type of experience.

Laser Squad is indeed fiddly with its line of sight but the extra and varied missions make it fun.

Which do I prefer? I guess we will find out!

Rev_Stuart_Campbell wrote: Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:00 pm I wish I could find out more about Email X-Com, the fantastic two-player-only spiritual successor to Rebelstar that came out for Windows around 2000. It would make for an incredible mobile game. I once tried to contact Julian about it directly but got no reply. Nobody seems to have a clue who owns the rights, if indeed they've even heard of it, which hardly anyone has. I'd love to buy them and get it made.
I really enjoyed that game, I bought two copies, super cheap, and used to play against my brother.

I guess the legacy of Mr.Gollop deserves its own thread, but while we're at it for me the cancelation of Dreamland Chronicles was probably the biggest disappointment in videogaming history.

The surprising ones in that list for me are Licence to Kill (vaguely remember playing it, it was OK-ish I suppose) and Future Games, which has a great tune, and is a nice idea, but I didn't think the games themselves were all that good.

While on the topic of top 100, the old WOS site used to show the top 100 action games and the top 100 adventure games. Does anyone know how to get hold of the top 100 Adventures list?

You can still see the top 100s - they're on the archive page of the WoS classic site.
