There's something very wrong here. I've never had a problem with the Menagerie before.

Green Beret is a classic, but tbh it's one of these games I really like for a few minutes and then it gets rather boring. Quite regular occurence with me and side scrolling beat(stab?)'em ups. Left/right/left/right/left...yawn. ZX version is not too shabby and very playable, but also quite hard. Harder than the arcade in fact. Odd, though a bit more interesting because of that (in arcade not much happens in level one, here they are all a-jumpin and a-shootin' straight away).
It's also easy to cheese it by standing/lying in certain points and stabbing away ad infinitum. But, obviously, no ZX HSC player would ever think of doing anything like that 8-)

Motos is a revelation, haven't played it before and now I love this game as much as I hated Hunchback (so R-Tape is exonerated). How come it's not more revered and acclaimed? (or is it, and I just missed it?). If it was made by some Japanese company for the arc....oh, wait. I just looked it up a bit more in-depth. Of course it bloody was. And I was hoping for another Speccy hidden gem to brag about. Sigh.

Here are my first scores for the week.
Green Beret still holds up very well today but I did get frustrated playing and always dying in the same areas.
Got as far as Eugene's Lair in MM. I totally forgot about that Eugene dude blocking the doorway. Bummer! Will have to time it better next time.
Motos is a lot of fun. I think this version is easier than the arcade if I remember correctly.

Furthest I've ever gotten in both Green Beret and Manic Miner. I've always liked those games, but never been all that great at them. :)

I have yet to play Manic Miner. Reluctant to do so because despite recognising its importance and appreciating the oddball vibes, I really don't like this type of unforgiving platformers. I did enjoy a bit of The Perils Of Willy recently though, so maybe there's hope after all...

Good to know that you can shoot the landmines in Green Beret. This is news to me too.

Here are my scores. Just had a chance to play GB again but seem to get killed in the same area each time. I also revisited Rainbow Islands from round 3 to try improve my horrible score but more importantly to try and enjoy a game that everyone else seems to enjoy except me. I finally got used to the rainbow/jumping mechanic and find myself enjoying the game a whole lot more. :D

I seem to be having problems witrh Green Beret, on the second level I can't climb the ladders! Anyone else had this problem?

I remember I had a similar problem also with a ladder at the beggining of the second level, it was certain bug in a file. I tried another (the original tzx, IIRC) and no problems.

I've had a crack at this week's games. The update will come later this evening to set the scene for the final week...

Green Beret: 26450 - I got to level 2 but I know I can do better, I need to invest some time in this next week

Snigger all you want at my MM score but I just can't with this game. It's not inherently bad (unlike that certain one with rope jumpin ;)), I just don't have the patience required for all these pixel-perfect shenanigans. Especially seeing as it's one of the really cruel ones, where you have to start from the scratch upon death.
