Vote for the best sound and music in a game released in 2017.

You have UP TO THREE VOTES.

I just voted for two:

Horace & the Robots (not just speech, but also nice 48K sound effects)
Space Junk (nice AY music)

I had to go back over these games to try and decide, nothing really jumped out at me over the year. I think music in Speccy games is usually a bit of an afterthought. All to often we try and find any happy hardcore track and plonk it on top, whatever the genre or mood of the game.

I chose:

Hyperkill - a phat beat that makes you want to blast aliens indiscriminately.
Sophia - maybe not the catchiest, but it's the only game here that uses multiple tracks to match the mood of the game.
Baby Monkey Alba - a recognisable track that actually fits the game

Some nearlys:

Wunderwaffe - brilliant track but it was released in the 90s I think.
Egghead 6 Title track - brilliant track, but doesn't fit the mood of the game well, and is only title music.
Globus - very charming (and that's not a way of saying crap but inventive!) use of in game beeper music.

EDIT I've realised that Globus was never released before last year, so it is a 2017 game, I didn't choose it for this reason. If I could change my vote I would make this in my top 3.

I really enjoyed all the tunes in Sophia. I kept humming the first level theme all day and the oriental theme of level 3 also stuck. However the tune for the final level is my favourite, it fittingly sounded both epic and foreboding, really kept the blood pumping as you tried to reach the boss.

The beeper tune in Three Octopuses, while being a cover, was also neat and suited the cute and quirky style of the game perfectly.

It's probably time to call a result on this and the parallel polls soon. I"ll close them in about a week to allow for any further votes.

The results of the best-of-2017 polls are as follows:

Best game... The Sword of Ianna
Best graphics... The Sword of Ianna
Best sound... The Sword of Ianna

So a clean sweep for The Sword of Ianna - not exactly a shock result.

The top 3 in each category were as follows:

Best game
1st The Sword of Ianna
2nd Crystal Kingdom Dizzy 2017
3rd= Ooze
3rd= Pixel Quest 2000

Best graphics
1st The Sword of Ianna
2nd Crystal Kingdom Dizzy 2017
3rd Vallation 128K

Best sound
1st The Sword of Ianna
2nd= Crystal Kingdom Dizzy 2017
2nd= Horace and the Robots

Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to close the polls. Could one of the mods do that?

Also I had planned to do a poll for best loading screen, but am now not going to get round to it. If someone else would like to do it, I have already drawn up a list of loading screens from 2017 (both new games and loading screen remakes), but really it would also be necessary to post images of the screens. If anyone is interested in setting that up, let me know and I'll post the list I have.
