(And there are quite few Speccy games called Explorer... any particular one? I assume the Electric Dreams one?)
Published by Electric Dreams, written by RamJam. A fantastic game of... exploration. I sunk months into that game when I was a kid. Nothing has come close to it since, not in gameplay or depth.

You might want to check the authorship of a certain egg-themed platformer in that list, not to mention the authenticity of its loading screen.
Please forward my trainspotter award to Claire Tucker...
I'm on mobile right now so don't want to risk a chubby fingered mistake and delete the whole poll but can edit that tomorrow (it's Clare Tucker, right? ;-p )
So what does the proper Crash cover tape loader look like?
Is there a version out there with the true loading screen? If not could somebody make one so we can put it in the archive.

I thought, and the ZXDB seems to think, and Jonathan seems to think, that Jonathan wrote it.
We've only got Jon's word for that, we have to be even handed and get Claire's side of the story.
(but seriously, a version with a hacked loading screen was uploaded to WoS so that's become the one we all see. If some can provide the true version this can be corrected. I have the covertape somewhere but not the means to make a TAP out of it)
I've gone for Enduro Racer. It was between Enduro Race and Eskimo Eddie as EE was one of the first games I ever bought for my beloved Speccy. Enduro Racer won out though as me and me mate used top spend hours playing this game and still never managed to get past the Desert Section.

If voting ends on a tie between these games, then we should disqualify both and declare Elite as the winner!
It would be the only sensible thing to do, obviously.

Ah this is the right one. I'll dig out ZX-Blockeditor later and get this into the next site update.
The proper version has been fixed at ZXDB thus Spectrum Computing now displays it correctly.
Curiously the wrong tape image and screenshot were imported from old WoS. It has been displayed there since 1999 (you can still see it right now if you click the WoS link at the bottom of this page) and nobody noticed it for almost 20 years!
Elite. Obviously. Exolon was too hard for me. Elite was the first game to incorporate grind, and as a result it would consume many hours. I do seem to remember an exploit where you could do a hyperjump while docking and save vast amounts of time/danger, leaping directly to the station in the destination system. I played a bunch more hours of the much later opensource ooLite. I almost voted for Everyones a Wally because of the song on the B side I still have a listen to that now...every now and then.
Toss up between Elite and Everyone's A Wally for me. At the end of the day, it came down to the first one being ruined by Lenslok and never knowing if you would be able to play it after loading.
For me, it has to be Earthshaker as the game came out of nowhere on a magazine cover tape and took over my life for months on end. It even beats the game it's trying to clone (Balderdash) and adds so much more to the game.
Out of that list, I load up and play Elevator Action the most. I loved the arcade machine, and the Spectrum version is terrific. But, this is a best classic Speccy vote, so I'm down to Exolon and Elite, except, as much as I enjoyed Exolon back in the day, it's a bit plodding now, a bit sparse. Elite, however, has held up after 30 years. So Elite it is then.
Shall we just call it a tie and move on to F? What do you think Prodge?
Never had a tie before, but at current time of writing, Exolon is beating Wally by one vote. Poll closes at exactly 10am UK time, so about half-an-hour to go.
If it goes to a tie (one day it probably will happen), then I think we should do a poll with all the tied games. And if that goes to a tie... erm... er...
