Which coin-op game should have been on the Speccy?

Post by PeteProdge »

...but wasn't, and - here's the clincher - feasibly could have been?

I'll kick off with a couple...

The Simpsons
This pretty much used the same game engine as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, if I'm not mistaken, and that game was not too bad on the Speccy. This was a lot more fun in my opinion...

Dig Dug
Quite surprising given how easy this would have been. What we do have, as a knock-off, is Diamond Digger.

Monster Bash. One of my fave arcade games. A funny plattform game featuring Dracula, Frankenstein & Chameleon Man.

I don't think this game was converted to the Spectrum. If so, please tell me RIGHT NOW!

Puzzle Bobble. Had the Spectrum been alive and kicking by this point I think this would have been perfect conversion fodder.

You could have easily had coloured bubbles, and AY versions of the tunes would have been brilliant.

Its funny, because you have all that already, in a Homebrew game: Cannon Bubble:

Once I finish my conversion ( http://zx-dev-conversions.proboards.com ... 0/extruder ) you will have access to something similar, but better gameplay then Puzzle Bobble.

Terminator 2:

We have already some Terminator 2 game but it's worse, it's a collection of various minigames of different style which are generally too hard and not so playable. Arcade game is pure intense shooting and great fun.

It could be done in a style similar to Space Gun which is present on Speccy to keep some colour.

R-type is one of the best Arcade conversions ever made for the Spectrum.

No chance.

Giant bosses, huge numbers of colourful sprites, bullets, effects, large scrolling background. It'd have to be a treacle slow monochrome affair. Just not possible on the Speccy.

(Seriously Wall-Axe? You've never seen Speccy R-Type? Neither SC nor WoS can help with a file download as it's denied, but you have an appointment with Google.)

Mr Do’s Castle. Would have been pretty easy to do and the screen layout would have been easyish to fill with colour.

I was recently playing Combatribes. If you don't know it, it's an arcade beatemup game, done by the same guys who earlier did Renegade.

And you know what? It really feels like a proper sequel to Renegade. It's the same style of game - small area of fighting, first some regular enemies, later fight with the boss. And it's pretty cool.

You can watch video here (I don't know yet how to embed Youtube on this forum):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG0tVG9SltA

or play it online (SNES version, very good but missing a few moves from arcade)
http://www.snesfun.com/play/combatribes/277

Seeing it on Spectrum would be great.
