BTW Simon Brattel kindly confirmed to me that "most (nearly all) of the original artwork [for Crystal and Design Design] was done by Dave [De Leuw], but there were different versions of some games and later re-releases that weren't."

Already included in the game entry, but I wanted to share this. Steinar Lund published today in IG a story behind his Star Wars artwork:

Last Mohican by CRL.

If we stare at the artwork, down right, it seems Phil Gascoine's signature, doesn't it?

Another strong suspect of a Paul Gascoine work:

Stomp by Omega software.

His signature appears behind the letter 'M'. Almost sure it's him. The same as the post above. Don't you think?

Orc Attack
"Designed by Blake Sears"

Special Delivery
"Packaging designed by Blake Sears"

Stagecoach
"Packaging design by Blake Sears"

Story House
"Packaging design by Blake Sears"

Tower of Evil
"Designed by Blake Sears"

Per inlays

They seem to me to be graphic design credits, but probably not cover art credits. I think Blake Sears is an agency, not a person (now known as Sears Davies).

So the question is... as we don't know the artist but the company he worked for... should this company be in the credits instead of the artist itself?

What do you think?

My opinion is 'no'

Sorry if I'll be repeating info here, I don't follow this thread too closely.

Dermot Power for Golden Axe, his signature is at the inlay:

And he's also mentioned at Mobygames:
https://www.mobygames.com/developer/she ... perId,405/

He has also done front art for Judge Dredd which I have uploaded today (viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1648&p=23619&hilit=dredd#p23619)

Check the game entry. If it doesn't include any artist, it hasn't probably been mentioned here before.

Kosmic Kanga by Micromania.

We can read in the instructions:

Cover design by Mark Candlin

I'm not sure if 'cover design' includes the artwork itself. What do you think?

IMHO 'cover design' and 'cover artwork' are basically the same thing in this context. I think, at that time (early to mid eighties), was very uncommon that more than one person was involved in doing the art work. Later on when companies started to pay attention to the product presentation in large boxes with illustrated instructions and so on, probably there were more people involved, even some design studios, but in a 1984 game with a very simple cover is rare.

There were definitely cases where cover design and cover artwork were separate, eg at Ocean and Imagine. Personally I wouldn't treat them as the same thing.
