It's not a cover artist, but another type of unmentioned contributor:

To clarify: the front cover is by Les Edwards, and the back by David Gallagher.

Always been keen to find the artist for River Raid but never had any luck. Seem to be down as Unknown which is a shame as the artwork is striking.

And thanks for the link!

I love the artwork of the old Atari 2600 cartridges, by the way

I know the idea is to contribute to this superb and very useful topic but I'm trying to source the original cover artists for the following:

Chuckie Egg (A'n'F Software, 1984)
Firetrap (Electric Dreams Software, 1987)
Galaxian (Atarisoft, 1984)
Kong (Ocean Software Ltd, 1983)
Maziacs (DK'Tronics, 1983) -
Pheenix (Megadodo Software, 1983) - Martin Ward ?
Quazatron (Hewson Consultants Ltd, 1986)
Splat! (Incentive Software Ltd, 1983)
Stop the Express (Sinclair Research Ltd, 1983)
Styx (Bug-Byte Software Ltd, 1983)
Wheelie (Microsphere, 1982, re-release inlay)

I've been trying for the past five months without any luck. Basically, it is for the purpose of a pixel art book that will contain all my work to date (a friend is putting it together for me). At the back of the book will feature a list of ZX Spectrum games that I had done alternative loading screens for but mention the original inlay cover artist. Quite a few of these weren't credited back in the day so looking to rectify that! :D

In the game Thinderbirds (Grandslam) we can see a little 'Stein' at the artwork (down, right)

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=5255

Better seen on the Mobygames entry: link -> cover art -> Spectrum

So probably he's Steinar Lund, don't you think?

Yes, the same "stein" signature is on a few covers attributed to him, eg Hellfire Attack, Live and Let Die, Manchester United and Return of the Jedi. He normally uses "Steinar", but also "SL84" (eg Boulder Dash) and even "S" (Jahangir Khan).

I recommend to follow his Instagram account. He usually post a lot of cool stuff, which sometimes helps confirm many of his works.

He actually includes the Thunderbirds picture in his Instagram posts, so it's definitely one of his.

The Halls of the Things cover was by Dave De Leuw.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halls_of_the_Things

I think some of the other Crystal covers (such as The Dungeon Master, Bug Blaster, The Island, Invasion of the Body Snatchas, Cosmic Guerilla and It's the Wooluf!) were also by him, as their style matches, but I haven't been able to confirm this.
