Role Playing Games
Role Playing Games
I have always wanted to play and appreciate Role Playing games.i had friends who used to play dungeons and dragons as a group for days on end, but for whatever reasons I never joined in.
What games from the Role Playing section would you recommend on the Spectrum or other retro platform to get started with on turn based traditional RPGs? I very much enjoyed the Dragonlance series of books.

Re: Role Playing Games
Lords of Midnight is the obvious one for the Speccy.
My favorite PC one was Might and Magic VI - The mandate of Heaven

I'm thinking more in the D&D tabletop style game.
Searching through our listings HeroQuest looks good. I will give that a go.

And if you like Forest of the Long Shadows, the following are also done by Martin Page and in a similar vein:
- Portals of P'Thaal
- Goblin Mountain
Re: Role Playing Games
Forest of Long Shadows is excellent. I remember typing it in from Sinclair User and running it for the first time and thought it was amazing. I like the the fact that it has that rogue element so each game is completely different:

Re: Role Playing Games
Cool game that, probably the closest to a dungeon hack/roguelike I've played on the Speccy. Looks simple in the screenshot but lots of fun.
Nice sense of excitement as you start descending into the caves. Usually followed by a sense of panic as your light runs out..

Someone mentioned Swords & Sorcery, a very underrated game for the Speccy. It is very interesting as a game, but hard and has some bugs: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=5101

Thanks very much for all the suggestions. Lots to keep me busy.
Re: Role Playing Games
Just given Mindstone a go and it seems quite good. It looks nice and the control scheme isn't too bad either.

Re: Role Playing Games
Also try Bloodwych, the closest you can get on the Spectrum to Dungeon Master.

Re: Role Playing Games
Enjoyed Swords & Sorcery, on reflection I found the toughest parts were the pit traps. You either need a map showing where they are or be prepared to learn through trial and error.druellan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 12:02 am Someone mentioned Swords & Sorcery, a very underrated game for the Speccy. Did anyone figure out what that "From Gangrene - this is no bug" message thing was all about?

Came across this on Youtube. Not sure it if meets your requirements but thought it looked interesting (listed as a graphic adventure), never seen it before.
