Penetrator key hack - fire and right separate

Penetrator is an incredibly playable game - IF you remove having the same key for fire and right. It's probably worth giving it a thread so there's a place for adaptations.

Here's a snapshot (128k for some reason).

And this is the patch, assemble or POKE these bytes at the following addresses:

Cheers, that makes the game a lot more playable. Just that pesky level 3 needing a edit, that's why they included the editor.
The final bombing run can be a pain, but it makes skill.
Sodding siren noise.

It would be cool to see someone release a new edit of penetrator (has that ever happened?)

Even better if it also had some revamped graphics. I tried to change the player ship once but it wasn't so simple - there's a collision mask somewhere in the code that didn't like it.

I quite like the siren noise. The first time.

The fireworks? I don't know why in your version they are monochrome. The GIF is from the Timex version, but AFAIK the 48k version also has colors. :?:

Penetrator is one of my favorite games and is now even more playable.

The coloured fireworks appear when the base has been destroyed - well, it does on the version that you linked to.
Had fun playing the game by not blasting the radar bases - the danger level goes up and it takes to the end of level 4 for the RED ALERT message to appear - I blasted one base on purpose and two others by accident. The score still goes up for the missiles that explode on the cavern ceiling.

I should point out I can't remember where the patch came from. I did my own once but I think this one is by somebody else.

Having blasted 16 bases and returned home, the difficultly rating does get harder after level 11
Miss 2 radar tracking bases and it is Red Alert time and those missiles levitate in mid flight sometimes scroll towards the craft.

The bonus score doesn't get printed properly, it is shifted a character to the left. The score wraps around to zero, but I currently have 32 lives!

Loaded up the original game, and yes, it does require the fix - it makes it a lot more enjoyable to play.
Maybe the thrust or fire was left in to make the game harder, but it is a pain.

After a certain danger level, the missiles seem to be so erratic they seem to destroy each other a lot. Sometimes made the game easier..!
