Z-Man, if you fancy a short gaming. A cute Pac Man game for the Spectrum.

Hunt the Hurkle - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=16720
Just found this one looking into "Maze" games, and the concept is pretty interesting. It is just a treasure hunt: you move, the computer inform if you're good on the track or not, but you can play with different set of clues: warm/cold, bearing, how many units again. There are 10 different sets including variations.

Jason's Gem - https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=2579
Just rediscovered this game, I'm pretty sure I saw pictures on magazines, but never played it. Reminds me the first multilevel games on the Speccy, and I can say the map looks cool:

I'm a big fan of Jasons Gem. I've no idea why, because it's so hard to even get to the platform levels, let alone finish the game, but, I seem to have some odd fondness for it.

Penetrator by Melbourne House. Great game with a mix of good sounds, simple but effective graphics and a great gameplay. A very great conversion.
Any other good Scramble clone for the Spectrum?

Re: Game of the day...
I was going to say that nothing comes close to it for thrill and playability, but that was because I'd forgotten that I only ever play a hacked version with fire & right as separate keys.
So instead I'm going to post two games here.

Mapsnatch by Dinamic.
Based on a classic board game called Risk by Hasbro, the aim of the game is conquer Europe. It's divided into 12 countries, each one armed with 4 armies. you play in turns with dice conquering countries and facing enemy armies.
This enjoyable game was one of Dinamic's early releases.

Crime Busters by Players, inspired by Namco arcade game Mappy.
Very nice graphics and animation, I can recommend it.

Used to enjoy that game... Seemed very slick & polished.
One of Players better efforts.

Yep one of my favourites now and back in the day. Uncomplicated fun, great graphics with outstanding use of PAPER.

Re: Game of the day...
Was browsing through my collection sorting through Bleepload games (mostly, because I’d just figured out how to modify them and keep the loader intact), and found this gem: Soldier of Fortune
Beautifully smooth scrolling with no back buffer. The scenery is drawn directly to the screen via the stack. Very impressive.

Multi directional scrolling at that and colours as well! Very impressive looking, will have to give it a go later. Thanks mate!Ast A. Moore wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 12:38 pm Beautifully smooth scrolling with no back buffer. The scenery is drawn directly to the screen via the stack. Very impressive.

You might want to grab my fixed version, then. Nothing too grand, but I fixed a couple of small annoyances (bloody Bleepload can be a little stubborn sometimes).Ersh wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 3:32 pmMulti directional scrolling at that and colours as well! Testing vector games I've just stumbled into Protron, Rafael Garcia (Spain), 1986 (https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=17032), published on the Enter Spectrum cassette magazine. The way it generates the random map is really interesting.

Emilio Butragueño Fútbol by Topo.
It hasn't aged very well, but back in the day was a good conversion of the superb Tehkan World Cup arcade game. Many hours playing it in those days.

Have been having a go at Astro Blaster, Quicksilva 1983.
Keep coming unstuck in the asteroid bits. It's easy to lose a few lives in succession. Very nice shooter though.

By the Way, Morkin , cool gif! Could you give us a quick tutorial about how to make one? I'd like to make a lot!
Re: Game of the day...
Can't remember if I ever used to play it much in the 80s.. Very playable game though.
Oh, the recording is just from ZX Spin, which has a recording menu (Recording > Video > Configure Output and select 'Animated GIF').
