Microdrive PCB removal, how?

For experts to discuss very technical stuff and newbies to ask why the Spectrum they bought off ebay doesn't work.

Microdrive PCB removal, how?

Post by ChrisZx »

I don't suppose anyone is familiar with how to remove the PCB from the Microdrive (actually on a QL but they are very similar to the ZX Speccy external unit).

I've removed all the screws and extracted it from the computer. It comes out with motor at the bottom and a PCB at the back containing a logic chip, couple of capacitors etc on the with the tape head soldered to it. I want to put some new caps on it and a new efficient voltage regulator as it measures 5.3v, but can't see how your supposed to remove the board - it looks like it's held on to the rest with the tape head and 2 screws. Is the tape head clipped on to the plastic tray part somehow or do I have to de-solder it to get the board off?

Thanks.
Just messin' around with 8 bits.
