Questions about DivMMC future, or similar devices

For experts to discuss very technical stuff and newbies to ask why the Spectrum they bought off ebay doesn't work.

Questions about DivMMC future, or similar devices

Post by fenderjaguar »

I would just like to ask, if it's possible to use a device like this, with a ZX Spectrum +3, to be able to put .dsk files on the SD card, then write them to actual 3-inch floppy disks that are in the +3's disk drive?

If it's not, what is the best/easiest way of doing this? Do you have to plug a 3 inch drive into a PC to do it? Thanks

You could probably use a microcontroller to emulate the disk drive. Just have it respond in the same way that the drive would have. You could then talk to the microcontroller via wifi to dump your files or retrieve them.

Well that is the theory anyway

That wouldn't require any custom chips or tooling. You are just sticking a general controller to the machine.

The trick is finding someone with the time and inclination to create the software .

Would be nice to have a 3+ as fpga but I doubt that will ever come. The userbase is a subset of the 48k users so its hard to make a business case for such a device.

Hello

Today I finally had to register to answer this question. Zaxon builds this device and it is for sale on Sell My Retro. It is hidden away in the Amstad CPC section.

Ask Zaxon for more info.

Thanks. Are you absolutely sure that a .dsk file can be downloaded from the internet and written to a blank disk with this device, with the actual spectrum +3's built in disk drive?

No, not absolutely sure. I have no personal experience with the device.

Ask Zaxon for more info. You can ask questions to the seller if you register with Sell My Retro.

However i think the chances are pretty good. The firmware in the device was not developed by Zaxon. It is here:

Yes, I already asked him. Waiting for more info. It's not really clear whether it can. Seems to be quite obscure, as I can't really find any info out about it. Thanks again :)
