It tweets!
Congratulations for filming in landscape mode, however, it does play upside down in VLC.
Maybe this needs a Spot the bird, win £100 competition.

a) I don’t use Google Drive.
b) Your video doesn’t show up for me. (Examining the HTML reveals a link that asks me to sign into a Google account.)
c) The mentions stopped working again for some reason. I only got a “Quoted by . . .” notification.

I can't help you with A, but this link now works even if you don't have a Google account. Your assumption that phpBB can't embed media was true until a few years ago before the official extension was released. Many sites are now supported including YouTube, Twitter, Google Drive, BBC and many more.

Spent ages watching that to try to see the bird... It's just sound, right?

Mainly just the sound, but when the camera goes up at the end, you can just see a tiny blob that pops above the trees for a second.

I think this program gives a pitch-perfect emulation of its call:

Code: Select all

10 FOR A=1 TO 8: BEEP 0.005,A:NEXT A
15 PAUSE 20
30 FOR A=8 TO 1 STEP -1: BEEP 0.005,A:NEXT A
35 PAUSE 20
40 GOTO 10
Expect these warbler as forerunners to our favoured Sedgy:

Willow-warbler - looks almost exactly like the chiffchaff but sounds like a melodious beepola tune
Grasshopper warbler - sounds like a stuck +3 disk drive
Whitethroat - sounds a bit like that last screech when you rewind a tape

And these are not warblers, but in case you're not allowed out, start to look out for from your isolation window:

Swallow - not a very spectrummy bird at all, but still nice
House martin - makes a perfect beepy fart noise

I am rather crowbarring a ZX theme onto these, but who cares. I'll keep you posted. Do the same :)
I got my first ChiffChaff this weekend (not been out and about as much as previous years). So, if we're lucky, in about a month some of us in the UK can expect our first Sedge Warbler. Can specchums keep their eyes and ears open - first verified Sedge Warbler report wins a tin of laverbread.

Gotta play with the volume and tone controls.

Apologies if I'm starting to bore people with this! I'd love to hear if anyone gets their first Sedgey. They're harder to see among all the foliage now, but not rare, and specchums should know the sound better than anyone! The volume on today's vid is pretty poor, but I can vouch that it was singing its heart out.

Sounds quite clear to me. :geek:

Round these parts there tends to be too much traffic noise but I don't have to walk too far to get to more rural areas.

Going by google maps, somewhere on the N side of the river at Clifton Suspension Bridge looks a good shout. You need scrubby areas - full blown woodland is no good.

Good luck if you do get out. Specchums need sunlight too!

When the video freezes after playing it to the end, the shot of you looks like Walter White.

Heard one today! I think it was doing the code block from Nonterraqueous.

Like a Specchum's version of the ravens at the tower of London, we can relax in the knowledge that all is well for another year.
