Friday Quiz - backstories

Post by R-Tape »

Thank Clive it's Friday!

Bit of a shorty this week. Guess the game from extracts from inlay backstories.

Usual rules, keep guesses to 3 until midday, then there's no limit but try not to spunk the lot in one go. Nae googling, you'd only be cheating yourself.
1 - You control this mutant creature who will stop at nothing to satisfy its only driving life force ... INSATIABLE, FEROCIOUS, VIOLENT HUNGER
2 - It has been blue once, this sun. As blue as ice, and as hot as Satan's Heart.
3 - The sort of town where rebuilding means a new coat of paint, and where people queue up to queue up for a job!
4 - For countless nights I have slept chained to trees to keep my deathly curse at bay, but now I am here...
5 - Your mother, The Android Queen, has been badly damaged in an accident. Your father has been locked in a fridge with evil spirits by your mother. (Nice family eh!).
6 - From the moment that Captain Xod's face appeared out of the static on the communicator, you knew he was in trouble.
7 - Thou fallest asleep in the 20th century and awake in the time of King Arthur and Camelot.
8 - Your plane crashlands in the dense jungle some distance from the headquarters. After deciding whether to go it alone or attempt the rescue together you set off.
9 - Out in the farthest reaches of our Galaxy there lives a rare creature known as the Tasty Space Griffin.

Oh no! I tried to make them easy, I think #2 might be unfair but we'll see.
where the Time Stood Still?
Nope.
Errm, Jack Charlton's Match Fishing???
Nope!
Urban Upstart!
Yep! I thought the flick knives reference would have been far too obvious.
No. 1 isn't Sqij is it?
Yess! That's the most sensible part of the whole backstory.

Nope. This one's a toughy, I might need to give clues on that later.

First thing I made was checking if one of the games is, following the tradition, Raid Over Moscow... but I'm afraid it isn't this time :(

Yes to Daren's. Just three more to go. 5 & 6 can be worked out, but I think you just need to know 2.
1 - You control this mutant creature who will stop at nothing to satisfy its only driving life force ... INSATIABLE, FEROCIOUS, VIOLENT HUNGER SQIJ
2 - It has been blue once, this sun. As blue as ice, and as hot as Satan's Heart.
3 - The sort of town where rebuilding means a new coat of paint, and where people queue up to queue up for a job! Urban Upstart
4 - For countless nights I have slept chained to trees to keep my deathly curse at bay, but now I am here.. Knight Lore
5 - Your mother, The Android Queen, has been badly damaged in an accident. Your father has been locked in a fridge with evil spirits by your mother. (Nice family eh!). Soft & Cuddly
6 - From the moment that Captain Xod's face appeared out of the static on the communicator, you knew he was in trouble.
7 - Thou fallest asleep in the 20th century and awake in the time of King Arthur and Camelot. Camelot Warriors
8 - Your plane crashlands in the dense jungle some distance from the headquarters. After deciding whether to go it alone or attempt the rescue together you set off. Ikari Warriors

6 - From the moment that Captain Xod's face appeared out of the static on the communicator, you knew he was in trouble.

Yep, thought Juan might have got that one.
I wouldn’t have known it if I hadn’t (upon request) made a couple of fixes for it. One of them was enabling the cheat mode, which revealed the “fall asleep in the 20th century” bit.

Yes! Though thinking again I always have the Amiga version in my mind, which actually shows what I assume is Captain Xod emerging from the static. I wish the Speccy version did that.

I think 2 is too hard, so here's a bit more that at least hints at the game:
Underneath this dead sun, beyond the surface lizards, beyond the tunnel of death, lay the biologic power generators of the evil Vard. The Vard, in all their hideous guises, had harnessed a colony of infant Zorr, and subjected them to the terror of biologic power, long since outlawed in the civilised zones.
