I don't know if it's a Chrome thing (what I'm using now), but whenever I click on a link in this forum, the new page appears in the same browser tab and it'd be better in a new tab.
What do you think?

Ooooo! How to divide the forum....
For the quick links and other links within the forum, I prefer to open in the same tab. For external links, yes, often it is helpful to open in a new tab.
We won't mention that I can quickly go from about three open tabs to about 33 in the blink of an eye...

It should absolutely be controlled by the user, not the forum.

Just press CTRL while clicking and it will open in a new tab.

I habitially click the mouse wheel when I want something to open in a new tab.

OK, I have installed a new extension which sets external links to open in a new window. I have given it a test and it seems to work OK.
