Spectrum 2.0 links fail

Post by Juan F. Ramirez »

I can't access to the reviews at Spectrum 2.0 neither from SC nor directly from the web itself (spectrum20.org) these days.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Yep I've noticed it too, and some days it reappears. I think it's quite a few IDs behind as well.

The links are still broken.

Does anybody know the reason?

It's a flaky server that needs a kick every now and again. Not my words ;-) https://twitter.com/gasmanic/status/1186942001591271424

Excellent! Thanks Stefan and gasman.

How does all this work then? It's gasman's server, but still Phil Kendall's site? Who would we pester about getting it up to date with ZXDB?

I saw somewhere that it was Phil's site on Matt's server (http://spectrum20.org/about). Since Phil didn't respond to my previous tweet I included Matt in this one.

I say pester them both until they get their act together ;-)

It's been down for a while again. I think it needs some kind of Heath Robinson contraption that ends with a boot kicking the server every 6 hours or so :)

Maybe the server works with a crank handle!

It's rarely working when I look, and not up to date when it is. Now's definitely not the time, but long term it'd be good to have something more reliable.

(I don't understand the current set up, and I'm definitely not having a pop at anyone btw :) )

As Ivanzx said, it would be great if we had a voting system. Just needs a developer to help out.

That would be great! Maybe voting only allowed to registered users?
Unfortunately, I have no idea of coding 😶

I have very bad recollections of rigged votes on WoS, and I would not like to see that plague infect SC as well. I would rather keep things as they are now.

I think an up to date and reliable Spectrum 2.0 would be best of all, and that's already within our grasp!

Voting I could take or leave. I understand Ale's concerns about voting. It's certainly open to misuse, but I think overall it provides a usable baseline that, for example, could be used by a future advanced search to separate the wheat from the chaff. But people will expect different things from it.

I think that, besides a limited amount of games that were affected by overvoting or strange voting behaviour behind, the voting system in WoS was very helpful and a reliable tool in order to find hidden gems or good games in general. So I think that would be a great addition in SC.

Why not a 'reviews' section in every game entry? Registered users could only publish them. And vote (0-10).

I disagreed with lots of the votes there, but this system does not bother me. But most of the times I wanted to make a review it didn'twork...it'd be nice if it was always on.
