Server updates

Post by PeterJ »

Hi,

Just to let you know I have to try and do quite big server update in the next few days. I will obviously do a full backup first in case it all goes terribly wrong. Over the next few days you may see 'server in maintenance' mode messages.

I would have thought the error message would be:
0:0 Microdrive not present

Mark
:!: Standby alert :!:
“There are four lights!”
Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :dance
Looking forward to summer later in the year.

Apologies again for the down time this evening. I've been updating phpBB which is not the easiest of tasks. Even though I backed up everything twice including the database, its still a worry!

Anyway, we are now on the latest version which is 3.2.9. I have had to disable one or two plugins for embedding media as they were causing issues. I will have a look at this over the next couple of days. they probably just need updating too.

The next major job is planning the upgrading of Ubuntu 16.04 Server to either 18.04 or 20.04 as support for 16.04 runs out soon.

I need a drink :)

Thanks for the information. Hopefully when I enable the broken extensions it will return.

Hi, I have re-enabled the (updated) extension, but it still seems to be an issue for some users (including yours). Mine appears fine which is odd as do the ones for PeteProdge, Morkin, Ast A. Moore and R-Tape. Can you try and add it again please?

Can you also let me know the file format and the file-size. Thank you.

Glad you have your avatar back. The upgrade probably disabled remote images for Avatars. Will check over the weekend.

I use an external avatar, which doesn't appear here since the update. Though it's shown (like Lethargeek mentioned) in my profile.

Yeah, except my mention didn’t work. Didn’t get an email or a notification badge on the forums.

I think that maybe because I edited the post to add you. I think it only works on the initial creation.

Oh, yeah. You’re coming in loud and clear now.

Remote Avatars is turned off because 'Enabling this feature might allow users to check for the existence of files and services that are only accessible on the local network.'

If you previously had a remote Avatar please upload locally. Thanks.

As long as it's not too big Ersh, I can increase the maximum file size. How large is the file in bytes?

It's around 24kb. It doesn't really matter though, I can live without it (or pick another avatar). :)

I need to reboot the server at around 12.00 BST today to apply some Ubuntu Server updates. Should only take 5 minutes.

The update to the latest version of phpbb (Our forum software) seems to have resulted in an issue with deleting private messages. Looking at the phpBB forums this seems quite a common issue. If you select the ones you want to delete, then scroll to the bottom of the page, select 'Delete Marked' and click OK, you get:

For now you will need to go into each message individually, and delete the message that way. I will investigate further as soon as I am able.

This issue is now fixed. I applied the following fix. It's apparently a known bug:

Let me know if you have any issues.
