Is anyone having issues with sending or receiving private messages?

Re: Private messages
I sent one on Friday that spent 3-4 hours in the outbox before being sent.

Yes. One that I have sent simply disappeared

Re: Private messages
The Outbox is a cause of much misunderstanding. It's badly named. A message stays in your Outbox until the recipient opens it.
Re: Private messages
Thanks. Was your Sent folder full. Messages from that folder are automatically deleted one by one when it's full.
What I'm really interested in, is if users are still receiving messages?

Re: Private messages
Yes, still receiving. But Outbox does seem to be confusingly named. By the same token surely 'sent' should also be called 'received'? I'm guessing this is a PHBB issue out of your control though.

HI DouglasReynholm,
Yes, its a phpBB thing. People on the phpBB forums complain about it a lot!

Re: Private messages
I can send and receive, but can't send to more than one recipient anymore. Only two things have changed recently: software update, and increased inbox size.
I've come to like the 'sitting in outbox until it gets read' thing. It's useful as you can make changes, or delete if it becomes irrelevant, or you wish you hadn't sent it in the first place.

Thanks Peter. Now I know the acronym proper, and why my messages stayed in the outbox so long!

Re: Private messages
The way the PM inbox, sent and outbox work is broadly the same on all phpBB forums.
When you send a PM it goes into your outbox. At the same time, it appears in the recipients inbox. The message will stay in your outbox until the recipient opens it. Whereupon it will disappear out of your outbox. It will then appear in your sent box.

Yep this is normal.1024MAK wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 10:34 pm The way the PM inbox, sent and outbox work is broadly the same on all phpBB forums.

However, something is definitely a bit wrong, as it's not possible add more than one recipient anymore.
I gather some have reported not being able to send or receive. That's a common problem, usually due to a full inbox or sentbox (I don't know if that's the case here though).

Re: Private messages
When trying to add more than one member to a PM this error message pops up:
You tried to send a private message to too many recipients.

Re: Private messages
The default behaviour now is to automatically delete items from your sent folder if you allow it to become full.
Re: Private messages
Private messages to multiple users is now fixed. Thank you 1024MAK and others for your patience.
