Sam Coupe Screens Preservation

I'm pleased to say that we can now accept Sam Coupe screens for preservation.

The first example is here:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=28501

I have been using ASCD which is a Sam Coupe emulator which exports screens in .scr format.

http://www.keprt.cz/progs/ascd/ascd100.zip

If you want to contribute any screens it would be helpful if you could change the extension from .scr to .ss4. Apart from that just follow the normal instructions here.

Many thanks to moroz1999 for installing the new version of his zx-image library for us. I learnt a great deal from him in the process which is always a good thing.

I didn't realise that there was another Sam emulator!

Yes, I only found it when I was looking for one that outputs screens. It seems to be rather good (although old!). I always like software that is 'portable' too.

I remember, as a teenager, asking in stores if the SAM was going to arrive here (Spain). The salesman jokingly looked me and said "I don't think so." But for a long time I dreamed with that machine. I was recently using SAM BASIC a little with the SimCoupe. It have nothing to envy of an MSX 2+. Great machine.

BTW: I always thought SAM meant "Spectrum Advanced Machine" :D

Do we have a bad screenshot or drawing engine error here?

That's what I see in case if it is a browser thing:

Hi Ralf

This is a testing phase. Some images like the one you have seen are not correctly outputted by the emulator. I'm told that this game is switching screens two thirds down The only officially working one is at the start of this thread. Please don't bother reporting other Sam screen issues for now. I will post updates here.

It's a complicated issue as you will see here. Apologies if you are already aware of the technicalities.

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1926

Once the testing phase is over I won't be displaying screens until they are individual checked.

Thanks.

If anyone knows of a good source of a wider range of Sam Coupe games than is more generally available to download, please could they PM me? Thank you.

World of Sam has downloads for the games where the original authors have granted them permission...
https://www.worldofsam.org/products?fie ... arget_id=3

The usual "ROM" sites exist if you want to download a larger archive.

Colin "Quazar" Piggot actually owns a lot of rights for SAM software; he has invested a considerable amount obtaining these for his SAM magazine, so those titles shouldn't be available for download elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure I must have a download archive that has more titles on; if you're just using titles for testing purposes (and grabbing screenshots).

(see edited post above re. games that have active rights)

You may find some more games in the TOSEC archive...

Thanks, I've been through that one too. If you find your downloaded files for testing purposes please PM me.

Then that's pretty much going to be what is available out there. Colin has his own private collection of material for the authors that he's obtained rights from. Some interesting things in there that will hopefully make it onto future Sam Revival disks.

I'm surprised that you're not still making your way through the FRED disks. :) Most of the SAM's programs and games were distributed through the various disk magazines.

It's specific released titles that I'm not able to find. Don't worry, I will continue looking.

Do you have any specific names?
If they are on World of SAM but with permission denied, then Andrew Collier should be able to provide you with screen shots.
