2 or II searches

Post by Juan F. Ramirez »

when I search for, say, 'Cauldron 2', no entries are displayed. I must have a search for 'Cauldron II' instead. The same to Beach Head 2 or Match Day 2.

However, no problems if I search for Saboteur 2 or II. The game entry is displayed in both cases.

It can be fix it?

Good point! I will handle it in ZXDB.

There's also something that needs fixing with apostrophes.

The game Benny Hill's Madcap Chase is listed as exactly that title, but you will draw no results if you type exactly that into the search.

However, typing the grammatically incorrect Benny Hills Madcap Chase brings up the game, complete with apostrophe.

It doesn't just affect that one title, it appears to be in all apostrophe-using games. Same symptoms for CJ's Elephant Antics.

I release a new game called ';DROP TABLE zxdb.entries;SELECT * FROM zxdb.entries WHERE title='.

Would you like to host it? :DDDDDDD

We have to remove special characters from input strings before they reach the ZXDB tables (as these have them removed for improved searching and alternative names). The 'apostrophe' looks like it is one we missed.

Games with explanation marks already work OK, such as 'Empire!'

I will take a look at this. Thanks for pointing it out.

If you try Benny Hill's Madcap Chase now it will work.

For those interested I used the following:

$title = str_replace("\'","%",$title);

Is it possible for Spectrum Computing to display a page of games starting with A... B... C... in a similar style that WOS already has. If it does exist then how do I make it work that way, with or without screen grabs.

Hi MatGubbins that is our current project we are working it. It will just be a long list by letter initially with hyperlinks for the game title.

Looks great, just that the heading states publisher, but it is listing what type of game style it is and not the company that released it. Yup, I know, a test page to make sure that we are paying attention at the back of the class. :)

The alphabetical games list testing page now includes publisher.

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=52

We will get the full A-Z, working as soon as possible.

This is a much requested feature so I hope you will find it useful.

I can't access neither 'Fist +' nor 'Fist Plus'. It has to be through Exploding Fist and go to the series list.

Searching for "Break/Space" yields no results, but searching for "Break Space" returns "Break/Space".

Also "&" and "and". A search for "Horace and the Robots" returns no results; "Horace & the Robots" works.

Hi, as the title in ZXDB uses an ampersand it won't pick up the and in a search. Maybe the title needs changing?

It's possible the forward slash is stripped as part of the PHP security checks we do on strings. We can check.
