Announcing our new scoring system

Post by PeterJ »

I'm really happy to announce the availability of our new scoring system. I know its something which many of you have requested since we started the site in 2017.

I'm extremely grateful to Israel Roman Alvarez who is a friend of Ivanzx. He took my ideas and translated it into reality! I would also like to thank Lemon64. The idea was based on their system.

For each title you can now vote with a score between 0 and 10. Please note the following:
 • You must be logged into the forum to vote
 • Your user ID, along with the date and time you voted is recorded against each vote in the database table
 • You can vote again on the same game if you want to change your vote
 • You must allow 15 Seconds between votes (regardless of if this vote is for the same or different games). This is a spam voting prevention measure
 • You can vote for any entry in ZXDB regardless of its availability
The voting system suits the desktop view rather than mobile, although its still very useable on mobile.

Right - Get voting everyone!

Once there are a good number of votes, we can do most popular game, game with most votes, and most prolific voter etc!

Edit: Thanks for the bug report TomD. Now sorted.

Think I've spotted a bug.

If you click on the Send button without changing the default "Rate this game xxx" (which I did accidentally on Jetpac) it will cast a 0/10 vote. Changed it a couple of minutes later but I think a few 0/10's might inadvertently sneak in if the user doesn't notice.

Great job to everyone involved!

Can't find my nor anyone else's vote overview. Since the idea is based on Lemon64's system I'm guessing it's there somewhere, maybe I'm missing something?

Once there are a reasonable number of votes entered we will add additional reports. I have a little concern regarding publishing individual users votes without permission. It's of course possible though and I'm sure we can come to a consensus in the future. All the data is stored.

For now please continue voting so we can get a good-sized dataset.

Ah, okay. I really like their transparency though, everyone's vote is totally public, worked great so far. Would at least be nice to be able to see one's own votes, just as an overview, if possible further down the road.

No problem Ersh. I'm sure we can work something out in the future on that.

Cool, just been trying it. 8-)

In time it'll be interesting to see how many votes are cast and what emerges as the 'best games' - I normally only log in to write forum posts (I wouldn't normally log in to just browse the archive), but the actual voting is only a couple of clicks if you are logged in so maybe I'll end up logging in a bit more out of habit.

Can we get it to auto-ban any user who votes Kosmic Kanga more than 6/10? ;)

I was actually caught in a generous moment and gave it 2/10 - it could have been worse..!

I'm voting now and in every game, I have to vote several times (4 or 5) till the vote is registered, under Windows 10 (Chrome or Edge).

Anyone with the same issue?

Are you allowing two minutes between each vote?
