New Game Maze Death Rally-X

Post by TomD »

You've probably seen this on the other forums/facebook but wanted to announce it here as well. Have just released my new game and my entry into this years ZX Dev competition Maze Death Rally-X. The game is a remake of the 1983 classic Maze Death Race which itself is a port of the arcade game Rally-X.

Anyway lots of detail of development in case you haven't seen it on the ZX Dev page http://zx-dev-mia-remakes.proboards.com ... ace-remake and you can download the full game on tape, 3" disk or Microdrive from my website http://tomdalby.com/mdr-x.html

Enjoy

Just downloaded and played it and I must say it's a very good game, it strongly resembles the original arcade Rally X (which I love so much!) in graphics, letter fonts,... even the loading screen is the marquee of the arcade game! :D

Good work!

A simple concept, but well executed. Playing it I feel like being back in 1983 (in a positive way). Nice one.

Fantastic! The in game music had me grinning like an imbecile while playing.

I really like the original Maze Death Race, but this is a massive improvement on it. It's nice to see the red cars actually chase you.

Brilliant, Tom! Snatched it for my personal collection.

Excellent. A fine example of how something simple, but well executed, can be so playable. It's like the best of 1983 all over again.

It's bloody brilliant!!!
I've never played the original arcade version, but I've watched a video or two and this looks as close to the arcade as possible.
Full of action, tension, gagging at the last drops of fuel in the tank and collecting that final flag to advance on to the next round. Playable, great graphics and some nice screen scrolling. Add the intelligent chase cars - damn, they are fast in the advanced levels and we've got a winner!

And welcome to the Spectrum Computing forum.

Simple but really playable. Has that flavour of an arcade coin game from 1981 ;)

You should have seen it when the cars got faster earlier in the game :-)

Thanks for the great feedback and welcome to the forum.

I've just uploaded a very small update, basically adding a version number and fixing an issue were hi-scores >100000 are partially hidden due to attributes. Thanks again to Mat for finding most of the bugs.

I loved arcade Rally-X - and this interpretation is just awesome. Quite beyond what I expected, tbh. Within moments I'd forgotten I was playing on a Spectrum. Spectacular work.

The only 'criticism' I have is that the smoke is a tad hard to see: white on yellow isn't so easy on middle-aged eyes. 😉
