I'm sure you're all bored of them by now :D but here is another new text adventure...

Deer Creek
...downloadable from...
http://8bitag.com/games/deer-creek.html (scroll down for the ZX Spectrum downloads)

Written as a browser-based game using the excellent, quick & easy-to-use Adventuron Classroom tool, it's been converted to the ZX Spectrum using the companion A2P (Adventuron 2 PAW) converter. (Plus some extra PAW coding & tidying up)

It's an educational text adventure, designed as both an easy, introduction to the genre and also as a tool to help teach primary children (aged 9+) about homophones & puns.

You only need a few simple verbs to play it... EXAMINE, SEARCH, GET, DROP, WEAR, INVENTORY, TALK, GIVE, and the usual compass directions.

Contains a tutorial for newbies. Type HELP for a reminder of the commands... You can even use GO to quickly go back to places you've already visited.... e.g. GO LIBRARY

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, André. :)

Your map is neater than mine, too!

You may want to upload your map to CASA! :)

What a fun game! It felt good not to be stuck after about 3 screens which is what normally happens to me!

I did find a spelling error, when you give the pastilles it says " you had over the pastilles".

There's always one or two typing errors that get through. :) I'll add them to the list if I ever do a tweaked version, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. It's most appreciated. Glad you enjoyed it.

Finished it! Neat idea and a fun game.

For a while there was no end in site, but I eventually sore my whey through.
Spoiler
What's the crack with the 'imagined witch' when you examine the tree? Is it a joke about witch-hazel? I assume the pool table was just there for the joke too? I spent a while trying to get some TRUNKS from various trees.

Oh, maybe I was a bit too pleased with myself for completing it....

I think someone's getting the text adventure bug!
That's 2 in quick succession!
I think you should challenge yourself with one of the 80's adventures!

Glad you enjoyed it, R-Tape. As I said elsewhere, because Adventuron is so quick to code in, it was 'programmed' in just a few evenings. (Took longer to design than to code)

I'm going to guess that maybe you skipped the tutorial if you were confused by the mention of the witch when examining the tree. :)

Yeah, there were plenty of extra ideas I could've added... including ones to do with the pool table and things like a pair of trunks. There was almost a zoo section. :)

I think you mean R-Tape.
Whilst I did enjoy the game, that was back in August! :D

If I do have the bug, then playing a diabolically unfair commercial era text adventure would be the cure! Trolleymania and Deer Creek were short and probably easy compared to most. Any suggestions for a gentle next step?

Ah yes I did, though I did worry when it said "I hope you know what you're doing"! Is the game different for having the boot and bonnet in ones inventory?

No, that first section is just in there to teach the basics to newbies, so it doesn't affect the rest of the game if you skip it.

I recommend the Gerbil Riot of 67.
It's reasonably easy to make progress in and I don't remember any unfair puzzles.

Or you could wait for my new game. After about 3 hours, i've got 5 locations and 1 super easy puzzle.
At the rate i'm going, it should be ready by Christmas 2022!
