New Software 2020

People are still making stuff for the Sinclair related machines. Tell us about new games and other software that runs on the Spectrum, ZX80/ZX81, Pentagon and Next.

You need to have the original Alicia.z80 file and then apply the patch file via Delta Patcher to translate it to English.

This is the original game:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=5942

But I've got a MAC and have no idea how to apply an .xdelta file to a z80.

Magenta Jim and the Coins of Doom

Image

You are a purple chap, first name James, and you need to collect the coins of doom against the clock, while pursued by what we are pleased to call "the Cylon Ghosts". A rather decent AGD maze game from Gaz Marshall.

If anyone's in touch with the author, could they check the distribution permission of this game (i.e can we host the .TAP file at SC after the next ZXDB update? :) )

Posting on behalf of Andy Ford ("Spider") of the JSW & MM Community, regarding MM2020 Special Edition:

This small eight cavern mini game is dedicated to all essential workers in any industry or sector who are continuing to keep things moving during these highly unprecedented times of the 2020 lockdown. We say "Thank You"

Note if linking download elsewhere please use the link above, not the file one itself (as the latter is dynamic and it won't stay working for too long)

Will be keeping a top-x scores record on its discussion topic on the jswmm site too.

Here's a little open source Tic tac toe game for ZX Spectrum. Download it here:
http://teutoburgo.tk/giochi/indexgiochiEnFrame.html
The .zip archive contains also the BASIC source, the .tzx and the .tap
The license is GNU GPL, so it is freely redistributable.
Enjoy it!

This is the official release of my NEW ZX81 EMULATOR for the 48K ZX Spectrum.
Fully software and much faster than my emulator from 1997.
The old emulator is also included.

Nice one! Would you say it's sufficiently different from your original to have a separate ID? Or should it replace for the original ID?

The original has 81 TO SPECCIE tool in it, which must be preserved too.
The new emulator is
1) MUCH FASTER
2) has extra options in the menu
3) a full keyboard in the display
4) can load games with hidden data on it
5) can load and run games with BASIC hidden on the sysvar.

It also has a new name : old ZX81EMUL, new SP-2-ZX81
It more a new game in same category than a simple update which makes it worth a new ID.

I am thinking of adding Chroma charactersupport (not colour) but I am 256 bytes short in free memory. Either I give up the ZX81 keyboard, find room in a different way or skip this support.

I'm not sure how to screenshot this to properly show it off. There is only a flashing cursor to see. Could someone take a screenshot of if doing something interesting, and that makes it obvious it's a ZX81 emulator? (the screen must be in the .scr format)

Also, Dr beep, do you still call yourself "YRS" as publisher, or should that be "Dr Beep" now?

Best screenshot would be
1 start emulator until K-cursor
2 press 1 and 0 together

As for YRS that is the groupname I use, many moons ago we were with 3. I am the only one left (there can be only one). So publisher is YRS and I am the writer on behalve of YRS
Company YRS

What genre is this? Adventure Game: Dungeon Crawl, or Adventure Game: Graphic?

Also - does anyone know the author? Can we host the file here?

That's a good question. The new 2.x version has some action levels, so, at this point is more an arcade game that a Dungeon Crawler

Got it. Will appear in the next update.
Thanks again!
Actually thankyou: for some reason, I used to think that as long as you went first, you could not lose, provided you had the correct strategy (grab the centre, then corners). However, I realised after looking at your game, that two perfect players will always draw (that's correct innit?).

Two new games were published in a Facebook group some days ago, a clone of Tetris and Pac-man, but both quite well done:

You're right! In fact my game plays with different strategies that allows it to always draw in the worst case.. Cheers!

Cheers Ivan. BWT when you post a game, it'd be a great help if you could include a bit of info with it. If you know them, things like author, publisher, release date. Sometimes it can take a while for me to bring it all together, and there are cases, like this one, that are on FB so a closed shop to me entirely.

You mention two games: Pacman and Tetris?
but both quite well done:
Are you kidding?! That's possibly the best version of Pac-man I've seen on the speccy; I'll make a new thread for it.

Hi Dave! :)

In this case there was actually almost no info at all! The guy just did a super short post saying, here are 2 games I have done, and that was :D

I will try to see if I can get his name, that was the only info left ;)

Both of them moved surprisingly good for an author we have never heard about before, indeed!

Edit: The name of the author, I found him, is Stephen Coppack !
