In nihilum reverteris - new Polish text game from Yerzmyey

People are still making stuff for the Sinclair related machines. Tell us about new games and other software that runs on the Spectrum, ZX80/ZX81, Pentagon and Next.

In nihilum reverteris - new Polish text game from Yerzmyey

Post by Ralf »

I'm announcing it here mostly for database completeness as you would need to speak Polish to enjoy it ;)

So Yerzmyey of Hooy Program (whom you may know as a music composer) with help of a few friends made a text game. It's actually something like a"gamebook" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamebook . You know, you read a long paragraphs of text like in a regular book and sometimes make a choice. But I don't suppose we have such suble categories here ;)

The link and some screenshots (it has some graphics and AY music of course) :

Will add this to the spreadsheet later.

Looks interesting, presumably a murder mystery?

Gamebooks were very popular in the 80s, but I don't remember any Spectrum game designed as one of them.

Anyway, it's a very interesting idea.

Remarkable examples from good old days include The Adrain Mole series or The Archers, by Level 9, both based on poular TV or radio shows. In recent years the spanish website Bytemaniacos has held several 8 bit CYOA games jams where quite a few Sepctrum games have been released. Take a look at "Está en la CAsja" and "Está en el Pantano" by Relevo Videogames, which has had a physical edition.
Also recently a tool to make gamebooks for Speccy has been made: Mucho (Multiple Choice Adventure Engine). One of the most interesting works made with it is also a spanish game by Pablo Martínez "El Cementerio".
¡And I'm sure there are many more! :)

I think that is the only one, not including the examples Sol originally included with it. MuCho is an amazing piece of work that I certainly hope it gets more use.

Fantastic!

I remember this one too, completed it with some effort BITD alongside a huge English dictionary we had at home (a lifeline too many times) just cuz I liked the cartoon. :)

Thanks for the examples! I didn't know both The Adrian Mole and Danger Mouse games were these kind of games. I've never been interested in played them, actually, but maybe I should give them a try, including the spanish ones... :)

Haha, yes. ;)
We do everything we can to release it in February. Hellboi is kinda busy at the moment, sadly.
Still, the game in txt version is fully ready (well, I paid 850 EUR for a professional translation, hahaha, so I DO hope it will be OK ;) ).

All the best,
Y

Hahahaha, no no - I'm not joking. :)

I couldn't translate it correctly enough, NOT to mention the literary language.

Some friends offered me their acquaintances being English language translator but I didn't like their work (looked more like made on google-translate; possibly was), so I turned to a professional company.
And it was their price, I'm afraid. :)

...and yes - the day of payment was very sad.

 Hell's bells! There's a man who cares about his art. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Looks lovely! And thanks for ponying up hard cash so we could play it! (Looks like the translator did a great job - I'm getting a Lem feeling from the text...)
