This is an excellent sample of what the Pat Morita team has accomplished by modifying the MK engine.

Re: Vampire Slayer Demo 1.3
Well...
It's nice to see a new engine for Castlevania. The problem for me is that
there was already an existing Castlevania game for Spectrum and an existing advanced engine.
I believe if someone contacted Sanchez (a man who made existing Castlevania) then he
would gladly share it. So it's a bit "not invented here" approach.
But if a new Castlevania game appears, then we may be only happy
This demo is certainly nice and promising. As authors ask for feedback, here's some:
- there is a serious bug/design flaw that to go one location down you must use the stairs
and if you just fall down then you lose a life. You should be able to fall down
- enemies shouldn't be constantly running at player as it's exhausting. There should be some wave of them
after which the current location becomes empty. That's how original gameplay was like.
That's the most serious things for now.

Re: Vampire Slayer Demo 1.3
but this is at least half of the fun! creating your game starting from the basics and up to the final thing is very different kind of expirience than creating the game using an existing engine.
besides, i don't think that Sanchez' engine is well-documented (why would they? ;-), and prolly full of special cases for that game; so it won't be that much easier to use it, i believe.
Re: Vampire Slayer Demo 1.3
Spectral Interlude plays more like Castlevania 2 than Castlevania 1 though and I'm not sure carrying the engine directly across would have given the same feel, even assuming it's possible.
It would be interesting to see this extended to a full game though, I personally much prefer the more straight-action Castlevania games.
