New Game - Hibernated 1

People are still making stuff for the Sinclair related machines. Tell us about new games and other software that runs on the Spectrum, ZX80/ZX81, Pentagon and Next.

The first spoiler was enough..! Thanks.

Haven't managed to solve your problem though.

At the moment I'm trying to:

Get through the decontamination zone.

I've managed to acquire:

I still haven't solved the connector but I'm in a similar position to you. I haven't made that acquisition but I think I know where.

It's just a hunch and I can't test it till later, but...
Spoiler
I think the toilet/hygiene pod thing may play a part here.

Spoiler
The connector is used with IO in the library (if memory serves correct)
I've got the cryopod open with the dead alien in it, I haven't cracked the decontamination area yet!

Just a little note regarding Hibernated 1. It's no longer a PAWed adventure game, having been recoded to use DAAD (DAAD: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 6&id=30013 )

You can download the latest version from Stefan's ichio page. https://8bitgames.itch.io/hibernated1 A physical release on Spectrum tape (with a bonus adventure) is due out soon.

DAAD itself has recently been fully recovered & re-published and now comes in a proper English-language version: http://8-bit.info/infinite-imaginations-aventuras-ad/

Sorry, missed this back in Sept. It makes sense to me that Hibernated-1 should be in both the authored with PAW and DAAD groups. Do we all concur?

It's an interesting one, that's for sure. I'd almost be tempted to say that they deserve two entries... one for the PAWed game and one for the DAAD game.

But I don't think that's currently how the database does things... or, at least, it doesn't consistently differentiate between two versions of a game with completely different code.

For example, The Quest for the Golden Eggcup...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=6841

Came in two completely different versions. One was the original Quilled version. The other was authored, according to magazine articles, with Smart Egg's own adventure system. (*not the Quill... although there is discussion and investigation ongoing about that). There are significant differences between the two versions in the code, the graphics, the map & the puzzles. Yet they are listed as a single entry.

Compare this to Methyhel...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=6678
and
the 'Special Edition' Methyhel...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... 96&id=6679

At their heart, they are both the same game but the 128K version is significantly different to the original multi-part 48K version.

To make matters more confusing for Methyhel... they are both (substantially) reworked versions of the earlier Nythyhel...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.p ... id=0006752

There are probably quite a lot of examples like this. Quill or GACed text adventures often got extended or reworked with PAW. Often published by completely different publishers at a later date.

Perhaps a case of OPEN CAN (of words)?

IGNORE CAN might work.

A single entry seems the way to go, though, if something like Spellbound only gets one entry for two, quite different versions...

GET CAN
CRUSH CAN
PUSH CAN UP GAZELLE'S ARSE
KICK GAZELLE

I need to do more research before I can comment further (I've wreaked enough havoc already with the maze genre thread  )

I'll probably buy this, but for now—does anyone have it and is able to supply a .scr of that ace loading screen?

druellan I see you've uploaded a .png (ta!), but if possible I'd like to get this one as a .scr.

It’s available on ZX Art. Not sure if you want to take it from there, though.

My physical edition of Hibernated 1 arrived today! It's stunning. Comes with a manual, memory card, mission patch, poster, stickers and more. Oh... And you get the excellent two part bonus adventure Eight Feet Under too!

My copy is the ZX Spectrum/Amstrad CPC edition but there are plenty of flavours for fans of other 8-bit and 16-bit games too... See https://www.polyplay.xyz/navi.php?qs=hibernated for details.

Nice. Would you be able to check if the loading screen pixel data matches the loading .scr we have here? They're probably the same, but I want to make sure the original source is a bona-fide screendump and not a converted .png (the pixels look inverted).

Oh, I can do that anyway from the download version... Here's the main game's loading screen...
