Work in progress - Power Blade - The next Sanchez blockbuster?!

People are still making stuff for the Sinclair related machines. Tell us about new games and other software that runs on the Spectrum, ZX80/ZX81, Pentagon and Next.

Incredibly cool ! Would you believe back in the 80s that one day best Spectrum games will be made in Russia? ;)

For anybody a bit lost inside the video -If you want to see just the actual game, fast forward to 6:30 and 8:00. It's allready quite advanced
but as I understand they don't have enemies yet, just the hero walking around empty levels.

It seems to me to be running on some modified Castlevania engine, there are these very characteristic scrolls between screen.

The graphics are beautiful.

I hope that they will finish it. They talk in the video about one man leaving the project but I hope it won't stop them.

Fairly medium-pace, scripted speech.
Spoiler
You want fast? Here’s fast:

Told you. The Russians and Spaniards are obviously doping, how else can you get games like this?

Me too, but they have a good record on finishing. This looks as close to faultless as can be. One thing I would love to see is this mastery of graphics, code and music put into totally new ideas - things like Survivisection and Drexx. That a minor complaint though, it's an amazing achievement and I'm looking forward to playing the finished game.

They talk in the video that in won't be exact conversion of NES game. Something more like Castlevania on Spectrum which started as a remake but became a new, independent game using some assets from existing games.

And Survivisection isn't that totally new too :) Some enemies and ideas seem to come from Chaos Engine.

Hi everyone ! I'm the author of sinc LAIR channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChC1Gc ... PPzN_owcVg
and author of that video. I want to tell you a little bit about the game :) It is called "POWER BLADE: Delta's shadow" and it is not just a remake. It will be a sequel of the second part of the game. The plot is absolutely new. The game is being developed by the team of four. Sanchez is a coder, artist and musician(Mighty final fight), and me(idea, general concetpion and scenario). The game is based on Castlevania engine, but on a little improved one. There will be three versions : 128k(tr dos) , ZX spectrum Next and PC(the same with the Next version). If you have any questions about this project, you can ask me :)

Looks really interesting, with nice graphics.

The movement, of the character is well hidden, within the char limit for color clash.

Hello sinc LAIR.Welcome to the forums!

This is a great project! And it's great that you have Sanchez in your team. I know him, maybe not very personally but we exchanged
a few emails. And I can confirm that he is a very productive, prolific, hard working, friendly man who does some mega projects from
the start to the end in reasonable time where others would take years and in the end abandon the work.

You mention some team member leaving the project but it's not Sanchez as I understand now, right?

Some more quick questions:

- when do you expect to finish the project?

- is the game design ready? Please tell us more about it? Will there be bosses, inventory, dialogues with NPC?
Did I get it right from video that the action will be happening in Russia/Soviet Union?

- how many levels do you plan? Will all levels be some industrial factory like in the video or do you plan other
type of levels too (city, forest, flying mega airplane :0 whatever)

Best luck with your project. I'll be watching it!

That's because it's using the NEXT hardware sprites.
If you go to 08:32 you can see the standard 128K version, complete with colour clash, looking a little like Midnight Resistance.

What I'd suggest with that version though is the background objects you can interact with (switch and moving platforms at 08:39) need to stand out more from the background. For the most part, there's a clear distinction between the brightly coloured structures you can stand on, and what's just background detail. That looks really good.

Thanks ! So, I'm answering to your questions :
1. We don't know when we finish it, but we work every day on it.
2. Yes, game design is ready. .There will be bosses, NPC etc. also there will be two playable characters.
3 There won't be dialogues with NPC. There will be rechargable iron suit and power-ups.
4.No, the action won't be happening in Russia :) it will be happening in a distant future.
5 there will be 6 levels. 3 levels will be in industrial places, one in the office building, and another one in a bio laboratory. Also there will be a racing level.
6. No, Sanchez didn't leave our team :)

The Next version looks like a 16bit sprite on a Spectrum ULAplus background, are the background graphics an intentional way of keeping the Spectrum's spirit?

Maybe you forgot about this thread but it seems that the work is progressing.

Some screenshot appeared on Facebook today:
Image

At first glance doesn't seem much improvent over the earlier video in this thread but if you look closer it seems that the game got enemies. Or whatever is this thing at the right. At the video it's hero walking around empty land.

I'll be personally waiting for more news.

This looks amazing. Looks like a brilliant cross between Robocop and Midnight Resistance.

It seems that we are going to have not only platformer style levels but also some racing level. And it looks top quality, just as the rest of the game :)

I guess it's going to be some kind of megagame. It needs time to develop but we can see that the things are progressing.
