Cheetah MIDI Interface

Whether it's Mire Mare or a BASIC tape you found in the attic, it needs to be preserved digitally. Post here and experts can help to do so.

Cheetah MIDI Interface

Post by Art »

I see that there is only an old incomplete version of the Cheetah MIDI Interface program in the archive and no manual. I recently bought the interface with the cassette and the manual, so I recorded the tape sound to a WAV file, created a TAP file, took SCR screenshots of the loading screen and of the program in action, and manually typed the manual to a text file. This version should be complete - it has a microdrive transfer option (recorded after the main program), more options in the main menu and mainly the graphical Steptime editing (as on the second screenshot).

Is it possible to add it to the ZXDB database? I am not sure how to make TZX properly, but I included the WAV file in the package.

Have created a TZX from your WAV with no problem, and also created a microdrive image - both are here. Thanks for preserving!

Thank you!

By the way, it would be nice to be able to copy also the hardware interface. It looks quite simple and maybe some Spectrum users would like to try to make some music via MIDI as some famous musicians did during the 80s using 8-bit computers connected to musical insruments.

Anyone know if this interface (or any other MIDI interfaces, or even the 128s MIDI output) are supported by any emulators? I'd love to write some music software for the Speccy that outputs MIDI..

Nice to see evilpaul here.

If I remember correctly, ZX Spin supported MIDI emulation.

This topic also reminded me of this

Yes, it would be nice to be able to use MIDI IN/OUT from an Spectrum emulator. Here is a short discussion about Cheetah MIDI Interface for ZX Spectrum with some nice photos of the opened device and someone wrote that he would make schematics, but unfortunately I didn't found any schematics for it:

ZX Spectrum 128 unfortunately has only MIDI OUT and moreover it requires a simple MIDI interface anyway, but it's better than nothing:
